Multimedia

The multimedia teacher has the knowledge and skills needed to teach the Foundations, Information Acquisition, Work in Solving Problems, Communication strands of the Technology Applications Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) in multimedia, in addition to the content described in Technology Applications Standards I-V.

The Multimedia class was one of my favorites. I had not had much previous "professional" experience with multimedia until this class. I enjoyed learning the exact layouts, fonts, timings, etc. that help make an outstanding presentation. The information regarding animation, video, colors, etc. was presented in a manner that was easily understood by me, and I will be able to relay that information in a simple and concise manner to my students.

In the future, my goals are to perfect the elements of a professional multimedia presentation. My goals are to have such a good grasp of these concepts that I will be able to effectively demonstrate these skills to my students, who will then be able to create their own professional-looking multimedia presentations.

Description: We, TATC students, were to create an interactive internet photo album of our life. It could combine family, work, a collection of various pictures, hobby, etc. The photo album was to have a minimum of two pages, which consisted of an introduction (splash) animation page and a web page with all of the other required criteria, which includes:

• 5-10 pictures
• Title for photo album
• Vector/Bitmapped Graphics
• Photo Album created using presentation software
• Video clip either on web page or in the presentation
• Description of pictures, summary of graphics, credits section
  

Rationale: The creation of this presentation and web page gave me a chance to demonstrate the skills covered in the TEKS regarding multimedia development. This assignment combined the use of creating web pages, creating multimedia presentations, and the appropriate use and knowledge of using and editing digital graphics/animations. I included this assignment because it covered all of these skills, and also revealed a little bit about myself to others. I thought this project was a good overall representation of the skills represented in the TEKS for multimedia.

Implications for future: I really enjoyed this assignment both on a personal and professional level. I think that most people learn better when they can apply concepts and terminology to something that is personal in nature that they enjoy. I will be creating a version of this assignment for the classroom which will include the fundamental elements of multimedia presentation, web page, sound clip, and video clip. I look forward to integrating presentations more into the curriculum. Presentations have so many uses that are not utilized in the classroom, and I look forward to using these to make my objectives and lessons much more appealing to my students in the future.
