Digital Graphics/Animation

The digital graphics/animation teacher has the knowledge and skills needed to teach the Foundations, Information Acquisition, Work in Solving Problems, Communication strands of the Technology Applications Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) in digital graphics/animation, in addition to the content described in Technology Applications Standards I-V.

I had no knowledge of working with digital graphics or animation prior to Vision IT and TATC classes. I have always looked forward to learning the concepts associated with it. I never realized until now how much the subject of art and all of its content has to do with digital graphics! I am enjoying working with Adobe Photoshop at this point. I haven't worked with a program like this before, but I am learning so much through the vocabulary, and then transferring it to the processes involved with editing images. I always thought that if you can run the program, you can be good at digital graphics! Boy, was I wrong. For the future, I want to improve my artistic abilities, and improve my learning in the graphics programs thus far so that I can apply what I've learned to my classroom and in personal life.

Artifact #1

Descriptors: Elements and Principles of Design

Title: Representing Design

Course: 100 Foundations

Date Created: August 27, 2002

Source: My images were taken from Microsoft Clipart, and the software used was Adobe GoLive, Ulead PhotoImpact, and Adobe Photoshop.

Media: Web page using Adobe GoLive

Description: Identify the elements and principles of design by creating an image to give an example of each.

Rationale: I used a basic theme of horses and took those images and applied the elements and principles of design to demonstrate understanding of each of the concepts. Manually changing these images to show various elements and principles further helped me understand how each of these concepts works in an object. I had not ever had any access to art or its components, so this was a true learning experience, and the software used was also a learning experience. At the completion of the assignment, I felt that I had gained much insight into the principles and elements of design.

Implications for future: I now see many things in a different light, literally. I see the front of catalogs, magazines, pictures, and web pages in more of an artistic view that separates the elements and principles of the artistic work rather than just the whole picture at face value. I hope to retain this information and put it to use in my classroom and gives students a perspective that they have never had before. I also hope that I can use the information to create better work for myself with much more educated decisions about how my output looks and functions.

Reviewers Comments: I liked your use of texture with the green and the rhythm picture.
