Instruction that Incorporates Technology
Know how to plan, organize, deliver, and evaluate instruction for all students that incorporates the effective use of current technology for teaching and integrating the Technology Applications Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) into the curriculum.
Reflection
Going through the TATC courses, I have learned how to efficiently "plan, organize, deliver, and evaluate instruction" for my students. I have had the opportunity to design unit lesson plans, and share resources and lesson plans with my peers. I have also gotten the opportunity to study what makes an effective rubric used for grading. I have enjoyed learning how to put everything I've learned into an easy to comprehend unit that is very user friendly. In the future, I hope to be able to use the resources that I've created, and also use the resources that my peers have created in my classroom. I hope to be able to make learning technology for my students as interesting as it has been for me.

Title: Unit Lesson Plans
Course: 104 Desktop Publishing
Date Created: February 5, 2003
Source: Individual Project
Media: Web page using Adobe GoLive, elements of unit created with Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Publisher, Microsoft Word
Description: In this assignment, I was to create an entire desktop publishing unit revolving around the topic of my choice. I chose to create a unit centered around creating a business card. We were required to demonstrate the elements of desktop publishing in our handouts and examples. Every lesson needed headlines, contrast, typography, etc.
The product requirements were:
- Objective of the unit or lesson
- Teacher tools and supplies list
- Concepts and TEKS applications
- Sample product of lesson
- Terms utilized in lesson
- Procedures used in instruction
- Assessment tool (application assessment is suggested; however, an objective assessment tool will be acceptable also)
The finished lesson plan was to have appropriate notation of the following:
- Sources used
- Software requirements
- Hardware requirements
- Classroom instruction time for the unit
- Classroom lab time for student work
- Auxiliary applications for modifications, G/T students, etc.
Rationale: I included this project as a "Best Work" because I felt that it was one of the most usable projects that I created. It is a project that I will be able to use in my classroom, and get much "mileage" from. I feel like the students will really enjoy creating the lesson product, and it is a unit that I will enjoy teaching.
I included this project as an artifact for Standard V because I felt that the whole layout of the lesson exemplified the concepts of Standard V which are "know how to plan, organize, deliver, and evaluate instruction for all students that incorporates the effective use of current technology for teaching and integrating the Technology Applications Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) into the curriculum." I created a lesson product sample, vocabulary handout, student procedures and instruction sheet, and a teacher/student rubric as supplemental materials for the students and teacher. I also included this project as an artifact because it showed what I had learned in a class (since I was required to demonstrate those concepts on the supplemental materials) and I was also teaching the concepts themselves in the unit/lesson plan. I enjoyed this project because I like the desktop publishing content, and sharing the concepts associated with it is very enjoyable for me. My goals are to be able to perfect the principles of desktop publishing, and be able to be much more creative in the future, and be able to convey these skills to my students.
Implications for future: I hope to one day be able to teach Desktop Publishing. I enjoy the software associated with it, and I enjoy the ability to be creative in the designs. I will have a wealth of information from my peers as we all created these units on the topics of our choice. I can take any of these lesson plans, print the worksheets and reference materials, and go straight to the classroom. I realize there may be adjustments to make regarding software, hardware, class sizes, etc. but the basic ideas and concepts are in place.
Reviewers Comments: Your handouts are a good examples of dtp. Really good vocabulary list. How did you make the banner (the blue one) at the top of your handouts?
I used the second part of this lesson - the one about the business card for a historical figure. That site was a treasure I didn't know about before! Good job!
