Informed Decision Making
Use technology-related terms, concepts, data input strategies, and ethical practices to make informed decisions about current technologies and their applications.
Reflection
As a technology teacher, I feel that it is very critical that I stay abreast of the latest trends in technology in the areas of hardware, software, and techniques. In doing so, I must be able to make informed decisions about what exactly to teach, the hardware and software needed to teach it, and the tools or resources to give my students to take with them into the world after high school graduation so that they may take what they have learned and put it into practical use. My goals for the future are to attend or participate in as many developmental activities that I can in order to stay current on the newest technology terms, concepts, data input strategies, and ethical practices so that I can make informed decisions about the current technologies being taught in my classroom and their applications. I wish to be a springboard for my students ideas and skills so that their best potential may be achieved.

Description: The purpose of this assignment was to differentiate and compare the various image file formats. For this assignment, I had a choice of 3 topics to research and discuss: Digitally Capturing Images, Image Integrity, and File Formats. I chose to discuss various Image File Formats because I'm very eager to learn about Digital Graphics, in general. I was to gather the information using your my own experience, readings and/or research as a foundation for this report.
An outline of the areas that I was to discuss are below:
- 4 or more formats presented
- description
- platform
- advantages
- disadvantages
- representative graphic examples
- 2 or more URL links
- summarize topic
Rationale: This assignment gave me the opportunity to learn something that I felt uneasy about. The purpose of this assignment was to differentiate and compare the various image file formats. I had never thoroughly studied various image file formats before, and this was the perfect opportunity to learn about cross-platform file formats. This assignment required an ability to organize a large amount of information, and put it into a readable and concise format. I will be using this information in my classroom, and I now have an effective way to present the information to my students. This assignment demonstrates the criteria covered in Standard I by using terms related to technology, various concepts, and data input strategies that will help my students (or me) make informed decisions about image file formats, and when each is an appropriate choice to use when working with digital graphics.
Implications for future: This assignment helped me to distinguish between cross-platform file formats and those that are not cross platform. It also greatly helped me in understanding compression and its effect on various types of files. I was not familiar with a few of these file formats, and now I know the exact purpose and function of each, so that hopefully I will be a more efficient web master in the future!
Reviewers Comments: Nicely done on one page...great resource for teaching.
