Instruction that Incorporates Technology
Know how to plan, organize, deliver, and evaluate instruction for all students that incorporates the effective use of current technology for teaching and integrating the Technology Applications Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) into the curriculum.
Reflection:
I experienced significant growth in this
standard, yet I only took a few "baby" steps.
My objective in earning TA Certification is not
so much for the classroom but for support in
teachers who will teach the TA TEKS in the
classroom. As a result, I'm not sure I
need much experience in actually developing and
delivering TA instruction. However, those
opportunities I have had were valuable because
they helped me address areas that the TA
classroom teacher will address. As a
result, my knowledge of how to support
them is better. If I were to consider
teaching in a TA classroom, personally, however,
I would definitely need to obtain more
experience in this area.

Title: Digital Graphics Unit Lesson -
Combining 2 Images
Course: 101 Digital Graphics
Date Created: October 2002
Source: Individual Project
Media: Microsoft FrontPage 2002,
Microsoft Word, Adobe Photoshop 6.0, Adobe
LiveMotion 2.0, Microsoft Word
Description: This project was quite
comprehensive, as it required us to take
something we had learned in Digital Graphics and
develop a lesson, within the context of a DG
unit, that would be useable in an actual Digital
Graphics class. Required elements included
relevant lecture notes, a list of step-by-step
instructions, related vocabulary terms, and a
handout for the class. Lecture notes and
step-by-step instructions were to be formatted
as web pages and available as print-oriented
documents. Sources and references were
also to be included in the site.
Rationale: At the time, I was
relatively inexperienced in Digital Graphics, so
I kept my lesson simple, focusing on how to
combine two images into one, useable in a unit
on image layers. I developed an animation
that incorporated the concept of layers for the
index page (this was actually an earlier
assignment), then worked out my samples. I
actually learned how to execute the lesson by
developing my samples (like I said, I was
inexperienced). My focus in this project
was clearly the DG lesson and how to present it
effectively, as the web page is relatively
bland--NOT my best work there. I included
this project as a sample of TA Standard 5
because it clearly exemplifies the standard.
This project's whole purpose was to teach
technology, utilizing a variety of technology
tools. Although no evaluation tool is
present, the required elements themselves
provide the guidelines by which it could be
evaluated.
Implications for future: This project
was significant in boosting my confidence about
Digital Graphics. I was able to complete
what was, for me, a pair of demanding tasks (the
animation and the combined images), then I was
able to coherently provide guidelines regarding
the teaching of the lesson. Although my
website was unspectacular, my project built
confidence, knowledge, and skills in a different
area and showed me that I can successfully
develop relevant lessons in TA subjects.
Teaching the lessons themselves is another
matter, but at least I had come this far.
Reviewers Comments:
"I
like the way your links work. Believe me, you
are a lot farther along than I am! Your unit is
very good and I may use it for myself to learn
something. Thanks for the info!"
