Standard III
Task Appropriate Tools in Problem-Solving
Use task-appropriate tools to synthesize knowledge, create and modify solutions, and evaluate results in a way that supports the work of individuals and groups in problem-solving situations.
Reflection:
This area saw some of my greatest growth, in
part because of the advances I made in Standards
1 & 2. One of my shortcomings entering
TATC was knowledge of software applications that
were available. Through TATC, I've been
able to expand my knowledge of what's available
and therefore develop better solutions to the
problems I faced. As my artifact below
shows, this knowledge has also been shared with
my peers, which makes me confident that I could
effectively share it with students of a variety
of ages.

Descriptors: Web Authoring, Digital Audio
Title: Online Web Tools Report
Course: 202 Advanced Web Authoring
Date Created: December 2002
Source: Individual Report
Media: Microsoft FrontPage 2002,
MusicMatch Jukebox
Description: The assignment for this
report was to research information related to 3
tools available in web development. Our
findings would then be compiled in a web page
that would compare our 3 areas. Finally,
we were required to examine one of the 3 areas
in-depth to provide more information to our
peers as a way of helping them extend their own
knowlege.
Rationale: I elected to examine
animation, audio, and bulletin board forums for
my report. My in-depth examination focused
on internet-appropriate audio. I included
this page in my portfolio because I think I
presented my findings fully, yet concisely.
It's possible to develop a web page in
situations such as this one that simply extends
too long and tries to pack in too much
information. I was pleased that my own
page provided sufficient information while
maintaining brevity. I specifically
included this report as an example of this TA
Standard because my "How-To" with regard to
audio proved to be helpful to my peers. I
had successfully established a set of guidelines
that assisted others.
Implications for future: Although I
had a solid familiarity with web authoring prior
to enrolling in TATC, I selected Advanced Web
Authoring as my elective because I wanted to
deepen my knowledge in this area. This
activity surprised me because it didn't seem all
that useful at first, yet upon completion I had
gained a significant amount of knowledge in
areas to which I had paid little attention in
the past. It sounds trite, but this
activity "broadened my horizons" in web
authoring.
Reviewers Comments:
"I like your green
and white color choice. Your information is very
well covered and your How To was great. You
always do such a nice job."
