Web Mastering

The Web mastering teacher has the knowledge and skills needed to teach the Foundations, Information Acquisition, Work in Solving Problems, Communication strands of the Technology Applications Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) in Web mastering, in addition to the content described in Technology Applications Standards I-V.

This year I introduced GoLive in my classroom so I have been learning about web pages along with the students. Of all the things I have learned in TATC, I find web authoring to be the most useful for my future as a teacher. It is challenging and very rewarding to learn to design a web site from scratch. As the webmaster for our high school page I plan to implement and build on the concepts presented in TATC.

Title: Compass.com

Course: 102 Web Authoring

Date Created: October 1, 2002

Source: Go Live Classroom in a Book

Media: Go Live 6.0

Description: A travel company website of three pages or more about one of their most traveled destinations.

Rationale: Our family stops at Laughlin, Nevada every other summer on the way to California to visit relatives. I decided to use this destination as the focus of my travel website. I used GoLive as my design software because that is what I am using to instruct my classroom.

Implications for future: This assignment showed me the whole picture of designing a website. I now feel confident enough to instruct my students in designing pages for the Clyde High School Website.

Reviewers Comments:

Stacy Hayes:

Your site is really impressive. I really like how everything is laid out. I also like your use of tables. The animation you put together for the stars are GREAT! I love it! The theme is really rustic and the picture of the compass is perfect to set off the theme.

William R. Williams:

Where am I?
The navigation scheme was easy to follow and to use. Due to the simplicity and clarity of the site, it was always easy to tell where you were. All of the links worked correctly.
Where can I go from here?

The simplicity and clarity of the site made it easy to tell where you could go next from any page.

How do I get back where I was?

I could click BACK in Internet Explorer or make a screen selection to go to the home page.

Functionality:

The site did not have any functionality problems. The site name, logo, background and colors were very good. The links to the external web sites and the photos added color and interest to the web site.

Comments and Suggestions:

There was one small unresolved reference on the far right side of the Laughlin page and a small repeating of the text "Laughlin, Nevada" on the right side of the Reservation page. The site was very good!
