Video Technology

The video technology teacher has the knowledge and skills needed to teach the Foundations, Information Acquisition, Work in Solving Problems, Communication strands of the Technology Applications Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) in video technology, in addition to the content described in Technology Applications Standards I-V.

Reflection

As a novice, I was apprehensive but very anxious to learn about video technology. The only video experience I had was making home videos with my personal camcorder. I didn't even feel comfortable with fading in or out or changing the date display. My videography needs more practice, but I now have a much broader knowledge about capturing and editing video and sound. Video technology brought out my creative side more than any of the other courses. I incorporated short self-portrait videos into my BCIS II powerpoint presentations. Next year, I plan to include video in my multimedia and web authoring classes.

Reviewers Comments: What a stark contrast to Diana, Jane, and Mary-Dawn's video. Very creative and fun though! Good job on your presentation site. Theilia

Very nice project!!! Your video clearly communicated a feeling of panic and struggling to survive. The different videos that you picked and the music you used fit together nicely to convey the mood. Good job! Mary-Dawn

Title: Titanic Music Video

Course: Video Technology 105

Date Created: April 15, 2003

Source: Video Wave Users Manual, www.titanicmovie.com, www.seawifs.gsfc.nasa.gov, www.geocities.com, Titanic Soundtrack-Sony Records, www.back-to-titanic.com, www.cudas.itgo.com

Media: Video Wave, Adobe Go Live, Dazzle 80, Sony Webcam,

Description: Using a predefined storyboard, create a music video which demonstrates knowlege in video composition, digital input, video and sound editing. Compress the video and then distribute the music video project on a web page designed to promote the artist.

Rationale: I selected this as representative of my best work because I view it to be the culmination of much of the knowledge I have learned this year. To create this artifact I included: digital graphics/animation, multimedia, video technology and web authoring. Creating a project by building on each element allowed me to see the whole picture of how all aspects of technology fits together.

Implications for future: I plan to incorporate video technology into the curriculum of both my multimedia and web page classes. The knowledge I have gleened from this project will be invaluable in teaching my students how to work with video projects from conception to the final product.

Reviewers Comments:

The video is very good and shows some great editing techniques. The web page adds to the effect and overall feeling of the site!
