Multimedia

The multimedia teacher has the knowledge and skills needed to teach the Foundations, Information Acquisition, Work in Solving Problems, Communication strands of the Technology Applications Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) in multimedia, in addition to the content described in Technology Applications Standards I-V.

When I look back at the past year and consider my Multimedia skills then and now, I am both amazed and amused. I'm amazed at how much I have learned in the past year; and I am amused when I think about how much I thought I knew before I started this course.

Before TATC, I could produce a good PowerPoint presentation, complete with sound, animations, imported graphics, transitions, etc., etc. I could even build a web site, albeit a simple one, but a web site, nonetheless. Now I can build web sites that use a wide variety of media including sound, video, animations. I can edit sound files and video files. I can create and modify animations. I can create a multitude of the small components that make up a multimedia presentation, integrate the components into a effective whole, and publish that effective multimedia presentation in such a way that the whole world can see and experience it.

Where next? Consider the rapid development in the area of technology in general and multimedia in specific. The future promises to be even more exciting with the widespread growth of wireless equipment, and smaller, cheaper, more portable computers. I hope to continue to increase my skills in the multimedia area so that I can help prepare today's students for their exciting futures in multimedia.

Artifact 5

Descriptors: Sound editing, movie integration, multimedia presentation

Title: CSI Rocks!
Movie Integration, Multimedia Concepts

Course: 103 Multimedia Concepts

Date Created: 3/11/03 (Completed)

Source: I used several images from different CSI fan sites (see website for links). The CBS network website was also very helpful in gathering materials. The buttons and background were designed by me.

Media: Adobe Photoshop to edit images and create background image and NavBar images. Adobe GoLive was used to put together the pages for the web site.. Adobe Livemotion was used to create the animated movie. TsunamiPro was used to edit the sound files which were incorporated into the presentation.

Description: The purpose of this Artifact was to create an entire multimedia product based on our favorite movie or TV show. We were to target a specific audience for this presentation and persuade them that our movie or TV show should also be their favorite. We had to incorporate video, sound and supporting images (like backgrounds, etc.) that were also persuasive in nature. We also had to put together a storyboard that described what we expected to have our presentation perform and a timeline that described when we would accomplish each component of the project and how long we thought it would take to do so.

Rationale: I chose to use this artifact because it represents the most comprehensive project for Multimedia. This artifact illustrates sound editing, video editing, professional web page design, etc. It also represents some of my best work. I'm especially proud of the background and buttons that I created. It fits into the CSI theme for the website.

Implications for Future: I learned a lot putting together this assignment. I'm working with a new (for me) web page development software and I will probably continue to use this software in the future. Also in the future, I can see myself starting up a very small business endeavor that creates and maintains websites for other corriente cattle breeders. I would be directly applying the skills that I've learned during this TATC course.

Reviewer's Comments: The video didn't work. BUT - the page is well laid out. The fingerprint theme and grey tones give you a feeling of "facts only" Emotion is out. Order and investigation are in.

I love the CSI & Law and Order shows. Sometimes I OD on the forensics related shows on cable too.

Great work.

Title: Life in the Country Multimedia presentation

Course: 103 Multimedia

Date Created: February 25, 2003

Source: Personal Digital Pictures, Microsoft Clip Art Gallery, WWW.HorseVu.com,

Media: PowerPoint, Sony DSC 250, the Internet, Adobe Photoshop, Macromedia DreamWeaver

Description: This assignment combines several components into a larger assignment about animation and multimedia presentations. A video clip along with a PowerPoint presentation together illustrate different types of available multimedia products. The multimedia products were simply supposed to create a multimedia photo album of our lives, hobbies, families, etc.

Rationale: I chose this artifact because it demonstrates several Standards and Descriptors. This PowerPoint presentation is also one of my favorite projects that I have worked on this year. It covered many different areas of technology and a lot of skills were demonstrated in this project.

Implications for Future: I love using multimedia. I love putting together multimedia projects and I love teaching multimedia. There are so many things that you can do with a project which uses many different avenues of media. Who knows what fun and exciting things will be developed in the future of multimedia production? I want to continue to develop my skills and be there on the cutting edge.

Reviewer's Comments:
What absolutely beautiful girls you have. I like what you did with the photos. There is a tiny colored border that really makes the album very attractive. I especially like what you did to the first page with the oval shapes. The background is very attractive, also. I guess I just really like the whole thing. This project really does what it was intended to do. I feel like I know you a little better just by looking at your album. Good job.
