Instruction that Incorporates Technology

Know how to plan, organize, deliver, and evaluate instruction for all students that incorporates the effective use of current technology for teaching and integrating the Technology Applications Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) into the curriculum.

I've been teaching in the area of technology for 3 years. When I first started teaching Business Computer courses, my greatest education in that area was from the "school of hard knocks". I was mostly self-taught in this area. As you might expect, there were some rather large gaps in my skills. During the past year, I have learned not only about technology, but also about how to teach others technology. The field of Technology in Instruction is vast and exciting. A teacher's lessons are only limited by the teacher's imagination. It will be exciting to see where the future takes us!

Artifact #11

Descriptors: Basic HTML Instruction, presentation

Title: Basic HTML - Image Maps

Course: 102 Web Authoring

Date Created: September 17, 2003

Sources: Dave Raggett’s Introduction to HTML, NCSA—A Beginner’s Guide to HTML Home Page, W3C HTML Home Page

Media: Internet for resources, PowerPoint presentation software

Description: In this assignment, we were to choose a specific aspect of HTML and create a presentation that teaches about that aspect. We could create a webpage or create a multimedia presentation. Examples of individual HTML code tags (commands) were to be discussed and illustrated.

Rationale: I chose this artifact to illustrate Standard V Instruction that Incorporates Technology, because it seemed to be the perfect example of combined instruction and technology. In this artifact I am using technology to instruct about technology. What a great marriage of tools.

Implications for Future: HTML skills will become more and more necessary as the use of the Internet continues to increase. Yes, web development software is very advanced and will probably become even more intuitive as it progresses; however, knowing how to use HTML will still continue to be an important skill for anyone interested in creating or editing a web page.
