Observation Experience

My observation experience took place in a real-world application setting. During a trip to Austin for my business club students, I scheduled tours and demonstrations through several businesses in the area. The tours were in three companies that represented small-sized, medium-sized and large-sized high-tech companies. The most helpful, to me and to my students, was the tour/demonstration that we attended at a small, privately owned computer services company called Consider It Done or CID.

CID provides a wide variety of computer services to businesses and individuals. These services range from networking, (both installation and maintenance), web site development and web marketing.

During my observation, I was fascinated to learn some of the real-world applications of the skills that we have been learning in TATC. I was quite gratified to learn that most of the software applications that we have been using in TATC are industry standards.

I also gained a better idea of the true skills that will be required of today's high school students if they are interested in pursuing a career in computer technology.

I observed individuals working in a high-tech environment, dealing with a multitude of stresses, deadlines, customers, and, of course, a class of high school students and their full-of-questions teacher.

All in all, my observation was very, very productive for me; both as a student in TATC and as a teacher of technology and I'd like to thank all of the friendly, helpful people at Consider It Done in Austin, Texas.
