Multimedia
The multimedia teacher has the knowledge and skills needed to teach the Foundations, Information Acquisition, Work in Solving Problems, Communication strands of the Technology Applications Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) in multimedia, in addition to the content described in Technology Applications Standards I-V.
I have learned so much about the creation of the files used in a multimedia presentation. Optimizing graphics for web presentation, adding music and other sounds, as well as inserting video are great ways to get your information across to your audience in an interesting way. Multimedia allowed me to use all the skills I've learned in previous TATC modules. I think that this TA course could give a student the opportunity to learn a little about all of the other TA courses. It allows a student to use skills with creativity and opens the door for them to learn eponentially as they prepare an entire multimedia presentation. I became interested in learning about creating virtual objects and videos added to presentations or web pages to use for information or training. The technology department has purchased Simply VR software that allows me to create virtual objects and panoramic video and my goal is to produce virtual tours of schools for our website as well as virtual objects to use in training.

Descriptors: Multimedia, video, web authoring, presentation, Internet, storyboard, timeline, sound, audio, production, audience, persuasion.
Title: Movie Integration "Miss Congeniality"
Course: 103 Multimedia
Date Created: March 11, 2003
Source: GoLive, Photoshop, MGI VideoWave, #1 Sound Recorder, Sound Companion, Cool Edit Pro 2.0
Media: Individual project, using photos, video and sound gathered from the Internet.
Description: This was an entire multimedia project based on a movie of my choice. The assignment was to select a target audience and try to persuade them to watch the movie. It included a storyboard, timeline, edited sound from previous assignment, summary of target audience, video clip, graphics and links to sites about the movie and including credit to resources. This assignment allowed me to combine many of the skills that I've learned in all the previous TATC modules.
Rationale: To integrate all types of multimedia into one project. This assignment allowed me to experience editing sound files, and experiment with a variety of sound editing software. I could also add a video clip from an outside source, however; I chose to create a video using photos. This is a great way to understand each part of creating a complete multimedia presentation.
Implications for future: This just gets me started! I'm so excited about using these tools to present information, whether it be to students or staff. I want to experiment more with the things I've learned to do and increase my expertise. I can see this as an integration tool in any subject and would like to work with teachers on learning these skills. Students would love this and it would be so exciting to teach this to students. The best thing about learning the skills to create multimedia is that it can unleash creativity! When anyone has to show others what they've learned by presenting information, they really have learned a lot!
Reviewer Comments: "I am super impressed with this project. I loved the layout to the site. Your pictures were just the right size to catch my attention and yet not draw away from the main content of the site. They also popped up immediately, which tells me that you optimized them.
The navigation was consistent and easy to follow. I enjoyed visiting each page, especially the home page with the quotes. Very persuasive! Of course your video was outstanding as well. I can't wait to see what you do when you get into the video module."

Descriptors: Digital animation, Interactive Internet photo album, PowerPoint presentation, elements & principles of design, splash page, web page, photo editing
Title: Interactive Internet Photo Album - "What Lies Within"
Course: 103 Multimedia
Date Created: February 25, 2003
Source: Microsoft PowerPoint XP, Adobe LiveMotion 2.0, Adobe Photoshop 7.0
Media: Digital Animation, Web page, Digital photos, PowerPoint presentation, digital video
Description: The idea of this project was to create an Internet photo album that included a spalsh animation page and a web page with all of the other required criteria. The web page needed to have a video, summary of the photos, summary of the bit-mapped/vector graphics, a link to the presentation photo album,a Credits Page/Section
Rationale: I included this artifact because it was the first multimedia project I created in 103 Multimedia. I have always enjoyed creating PowerPoint presentations, and have posted them on the web before, but in 103 Multimedia, I've learned to optimize my graphics so that they download quickly from the Internet. I was just learning about using video and found the video albm "Photographs" to use as my video example. My skills weren't quite "there" to be able to produce something similar...but the video is a really neat idea.
Implications for future: Everyone has some kind of photo album - whether it's about them, their family, a hobby, or a beloved pet. Students would really enjoy creating a personal photo album like this, and it gives them a wonderful opportunity to learn about graphic optimization, digital input devices, and presentation skills.
