Standards

The multimedia teacher has the knowledge and skills needed to teach the Foundations, Information Acquisition, Work in Solving Problems, Communication strands of the Technology Applications Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) in multimedia, in addition to the content described in Technology Applications Standards I-V.

Reflection: When I first heard the word it was kind of frightening. If you think about it "multi" "media"? I had no idea what to expect. After learning what exactly multimedia consisted of, using at least two different types of medias, it really wasn't difficult at all. In fact, I highly enjoyed this class and creating all of the projects that went along with it. I came to realize that I had been incorporating multimedia a lot in my classroom but I never officially called it that. I learned a tremendous amount in this area, especially in the lines of video and audio combined. I know that I still have more to learn in this area as well as the rest of the TA subjects, but that's okay because I am a life long learner as most technology teachers are!

My goal is to continuing learning how to incorporate Multimedia into every type of classroom not just the technology based classes. I want every child to experience using technology even if they do not take technology based classes. I believe that when you expose a child to something new, it gives them another option in life!

Title: A Flash Back in Time
Course: TATC Multimedia 103
Date Created: February 26, 2003

Source: I used Microsoft PowerPoint XP to create the scheme of the Photo Album. I downloaded a template from the Internet to get the gray background. I scanned my pictures into Adobe Photoshop using a Hewlett Packard Scan jet 3500c and then edited them appropriately using. After I edited the pictures I placed them in PowerPoint and added text. I used the rotating feature to rotate my pictures and my text. I applied custom animation and slide transition on each slide of the photo album. For the music I copied a song from a CD into my media library and then edited it in Cool Edit for the appropriate length. Then I inserted the edited song into my photo album presentation.

Description: This PowerPoint Presentation was a small portion of a project created in the TATC Multimedia course. We were asked to create an Interactive Internet Photo Album of our life. The entire project consisted of an introduction animation page, a video, a link to the photo album, description of the pictures used, a credits page, and a website housing all of the information. Artifact 12 is only the PowerPoint presentation so that you can hear the music that goes with it. To me the music really makes the presentation a lot more meaningful and touching. I feel that this artifact is an excellent example of multimedia especially with the edited music that really makes the presentation.

Rationale: I enjoyed doing this project so much and it actually came at a good time. I learned so much about multimedia and I got to use this project that I created in TATC for my BCIS classes at Sanger as well. We started PowerPoint about three weeks ago and the students were not really that interested in it. When I told them that I too was doing a Multimedia project (PowerPoint), they became more curious about it. They wanted to see my work and they kept up with me for the remainder of this project. When they saw the finished project they were amazed and asked if they too could create a project similar. So by creating this project and having a real life example from their teacher, they became very interested in PowerPoint and all of the different aspects and elements of it. Now that my classes have had just a little taste of multimedia and enjoyed it, I hope we can get them enrolled in our multimedia classes for next year.

Implications for future: I just wish that I would have had my baby albums so that I would have been able to create a photo album from the beginning of my life until now. I definitely can not wait to use this project in my BCIS class, especially since they are so enthusiastic about it. I can't wait to see all of the neat projects that I get.

Reviewers Comments: Not sure how to help with the sound - I'm impressed that you're attempting it.
So how did you get your PowerPoint to set up the frames? Is this something available in PowerPoint 2000 or XP? I'm using 97, and mine was just a generic show.
Good job on the total package. I liked the background you used for your web page, and I think the show layout was really nice.
