Title: Just for Fun!
Course: This digital graphics and animation was created in the Vision IT program. It was the header on the top of a webpage that we created for that class.
Date Created: June 2002
Source: It was created using Adobe LiveMotion and with the help of my Vision IT teacher Rachel Newman.
Description: I created this header in the Vision IT program. My partner and I had to create a web page in the four days that we were in this class. This animation was used as the header for that web page. Not only did I use this header in Vision IT, but I also used it to show to students in my classes what all I learned this summer and get them interested in digital graphics for the next year. I wanted something that would stand out and grab the students' attention and get them interested in digital graphics.
Rationale: By creating this digital graphic and animation, I was successfully able to capture the interest of the Sanger High School students. By using the spinning basketball and the cartoon character, I hit a point of interest in several of my students. This started their minds in gear of thinking of all the things that they could create and learn in digital graphics. And that was my main objective, to get their attention and get them interested. I especially love this artifact because it is the very first animation that I have ever done. I created it using the Adobe LiveMotion animation software. I downloaded the little cartoon character from the Internet that my partner had found. I used this cartoon character because it applied to the overall theme of our web page. I downloaded the basketball off the Internet as well and edited it using Adobe Photoshop.
Implications for future: I wish that I would have known more about GoLive than I did when I created this header. I feel that now that I know more about digital graphics and animation that I could create a much more complex animation, but that is not the point. This artifact represents the first animation that I have ever created. It shows where I was and how much that I learned throughout the Vision IT class. I carried this learning over to TATC and continued to learn digital graphics and animation. I will use this artifact as an example in my future digital graphics classes as a stepping stone to greater projects.
Reviewers Comments: "I really enjoyed the animation. The creators did good work!"

Title: Digital Graphics Magazine Covers!
Course: This digital graphics and animation lesson was created during the TATC 101 Digital Graphics course.
Date Created: October 17, 2002 - November 5, 2002
Source: This artifact was created using Adobe Photoshop, GIF Construction, which is animation software, and the Internet.
Description: For this assignment I created a digital graphics unit lesson plan. Our first task was to find a topic that we would like to build an entire lesson around. Over a course of three weeks we created the entire site which had to include: teacher lecture notes, vocabulary listings, step by step instruction sheets, useful links (if any), animation(s), a credits page and an example of the overall product. I then had to create a web site to display the entire unit lesson plan. All pages had to be clearly linked to each other and all documents had to be provided as a downloadable, universally accessible format.
I chose to recreate a magazine cover for my unit lesson. The students would choose a magazine of their choice that they would like to put their face or body on. I did one as an example and I used a fitness magazine called SHAPE, since I am into fitness and sports. Using Adobe Photoshop I recreated the cover using several tools and features like: layers, crop, emboss, text tool, contrast, brightness, gradient, blur tool, filters, eraser, lassos, image crop, image size, rotation, bevel tool, layer styles, feathering, zoom tool, scale, font size, font color, and font type, and flattening layers. I used a digital camera to take a picture of myself in the same position as the lady on the cover. I then edited the picture using Photoshop and added it to the magazine cover. I created the barcode in Adobe Photoshop as well and added it in the proper place. Lastly after several days of working on this project I flattened the layers into one layer and saved the file.
Rationale: I chose to include this magazine cover as one of my artifacts because of it complexity and detail. I think that it is a great example of using every principle and element of Digital Graphics. To complete this assignment I had to use a lot of tools, which are all listed above in the description of the assignment. The time and effort that I spent creating this project can not be measured. It took me three weeks to complete the overall unit lesson and I am very proud of it. I now have an example that I can use in my class when I have my students create their own magazine covers. The students always appreciate examples to look at before they actually have to create their own, I know I sure did!
Implications for future: I am definitely going to use this assignment in my classroom if I ever get to teach a Digital Graphics class. By creating my own magazine cover, I really learned a lot about Adobe Photoshop. I was forced to learn buttons and tools that I never knew were there. I think that this lesson really shows students how easy it is to edit and touch up things on magazines, especially people! In today's world everything is portrayed as "perfect" particularly models and people that young men/women look up to. By doing this assignment, I think that it shows them just how easy it is to make everything and everyone look "perfect" and that to me is important for young men/women. If we can show them that everything they see is not real, then maybe it would cut down on some of the problems that these young kids face.
Reviewers Comments: Good job. I think I will use that lesson. I liked it a lot and it could go with marketing and advertising as well.
