Know how to plan, organize, deliver, and evaluate instruction for all students that incorporates the effective use of current technology for teaching and integrating the Technology Applications Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) into the curriculum.

Reflection: Technology is continuously changing and impacting our society. We have gone from a modern world into a more technical world. I feel that technology has become a vital instructional tool for today's teacher. As technology continues to advance, it will be necessary for teachers to continue to learn and implement new technology strategies in their teaching methods. I feel it is important for every child to get a sound education with as much technology incorporated in it as we can to better prepare them for the future.

Title: Desktop Publishing Unit Lesson
Course: This unit lesson was created in the Desktop Publishing TATC 2002-2003 course.
Date Created: February 4, 2003

Source: This project was created using multiple software programs. I created the teachers tools, step-by-step instructions and the rubric using Microsoft Word. The sample of the brochure was created by two of my students who competed in the Business Professional of American National Leadership conference in marketing. They used Microsoft Word to create their brochure and Adobe Photoshop to edit their graphics. Adobe GoLive was used to create the web page that all of the information was housed. Files were saved in universal formats using Adobe Acrobat.

Description: Using the TEKS for desktop publishing, we were asked to create a unit lesson for a publication that we had learned about. We had to include: the objective of the lesson, teacher tools and supplies list, concepts and TEKS applications, a sample product of the lesson, terms utilized, procedures used in instruction, cited sources, hardware and software requirements, classroom instruction and lab time and modifications used.

I searched the Internet to find information on brochures that I needed. As mentioned above, I used Microsoft Word to create my handouts, teacher instructions and rubric. I saved the documents as universal file type, RTF, so that everyone would be able to access them. The actual brochure itself was created by two of my students who competed in the Business Professionals of America National Conference in marketing. They used Microsoft Word as well as Adobe Photoshop to create their publication. I used Adobe GoLive to create the web page. I downloaded the notebook paper for the background of the page from the Internet.

Rationale: I think that the overall project incorporates technology in numerous ways. First the students have to be able to find appropriate information by searching the Internet. They then have to use a combination of software programs to be able to create their publication. The student must also post the publication as a universal format as well as in print so that I may view it from my computer at work and at home. This project also forces the students to be able to jump back and forth from one program to the next using information in different formats.

By completing this assignment I not only learned a great deal about making brochures but I also received numerous unit lessons that I can use in my future classes.

Implications for future: In the future I plan on using more projects that forces the students to use more than one program at a time. I also plan on adding universal file format to the criteria of my projects. I think that it is important for the students to learn that as early as they can. I also still haven't found out how to keep my table where I would like it in Adobe GoLive. I haven't been able to keep the text from stretching over the areas that I do not want it in. I have tried the indent function liked suggested by my review but that didn't work in Adobe GoLive. I will keep trying though!

Reviewers Comments: I love your background! I would suggest using a shorter line length for the right hand side to prevent it from bleeding over into the spiral binding again and also to eliminate the horizontal scroll. You can do this with the indent function in DreamWeaver, but don't know about GoLive.
