Communicate information in different formats and for diverse audiences.

Reflection: In today's world being able to communicate effectively is a must have skill. In order to successfully communicate information, one must learn to present the information in a variety of different formats accessible to various audiences. I feel that by completing the Technology Application Teacher Certification courses I have had the opportunity to create materials in a variety of formats. Throughout my portfolio I have used different types of formats so that it may be accessible by a larger audience of viewers.

Title: Baby Shower Invitation
Course: This Baby Shower Invitation was created in the Desktop Publishing TATC 2002-2003 course.
Date Created: January 20, 2003

Source: I used a combination of two software programs to create this invitation. I created the main page of the invitation using Adobe PageMaker. I downloaded graphics from the Internet and edited them using the editing software Adobe Photoshop.  I used Adobe PageMaker features to create the typography on the card and to manipulate the graphics to their locations.

Description: For this assignment we were to create a greeting card or an invitation using appropriate software and design concepts. I chose to create a baby shower invitation because I was getting ready to throw a baby shower for two of my co-workers. I used Adobe PageMaker to create the main page of the invitation. I searched the Internet and found appropriate graphics that I wanted to use and edited them using Adobe Photoshop. I then placed the graphics in Adobe PageMaker and used features like: rotate, move, crop and transform to position the graphics appropriately. Adobe PageMaker was also used to create all of the typography on the invitation. When the publication was complete I saved it as an RTF file and as a PDF using the program Adobe Acrobat, so that it could be more accessible to viewers.

Rationale: At first this project was frustrating to me. This was my first desktop publishing publication that I created and I wasn't familiar with any of the PageMaker features. With trial and error, much error, I successfully completed the publication. I think that this publication was a great example of communicating information in various formats. I saved the publication in two different formats: RTF and PDF. By using these two file types the publication was more accessible to various audiences. By completing this assignment I was able to learn how to save publications as a PDF file using Adobe Acrobat as well as why I would choose that format versus other formats.

Implications for future: The information that I learned from this assignment is invaluable to me. Prior to this class, I had never saved a file using a universal format before. Since learning this I have used it in my BCIS classes as well as for my personal use. I have also taught several of my co-workers this to help them when sharing files through email and when saving work at home to bring to school to print.

Reviewers Comments: Very simple and to-the-point layout. Nice job with the borders on the front.

Reviewers Comments: Nice job. I liked your color choice. It was definitely for a baby yet it was not pale pastels that sometimes can be hard to see..
