The Web mastering teacher has the knowledge and skills needed to teach the Foundations, Information Acquisition, Work in Solving Problems, Communication strands of the Technology Applications Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) in Web mastering, in addition to the content described in Technology Applications Standards I-V.

Reflection: Web mastering was the one TA subject that I thought I was going to struggle with the most. There were so many terms that I have never heard of let alone ever used before. All the web pages that I looked at on the Internet always looked so complex and complicated and I thought I could never do that. I have learned so much in this area, that I have totally impressed myself. By learning web authoring hands on, I was able to experience and learn things the hard way. At the beginning there were times that I lost information or never got things to look like the way I wanted them to because of the lack of experience. The most frustrating part for me was designing something and then looking at it on the Internet, and it looked totally different! But with experience and practice, I got better at it. I have learned what an important role file size and graphic size play in developing websites. By learning some of the concepts of web authoring I find myself critiquing professional websites because now I know what to look at. I have found myself several times saying, "What a poorly designed site, they should really hire me!" I know that this class has only touched on a small part of this huge TA subject and that I still have tons of things to learn about, but I am looking forward to it!

I will be teaching this class next year at my high school and I am a little nervous. I feel that TATC has prepared me to teach the basics of Web Mastering, but I lack experience in the actual teaching of this class. I think I will learn more in the first year of teaching this class through trial and error more than anything. After learning Adobe GoLive like the back of my hand my high school bought Dreamweaver MX for the students. Now I will have to get used to a new software program as well. My current goal for this class is to learn as much as I possibly can about Web Mastering through workshops during the summer hopefully at Region XI. I have currently order numerous books to help me learn Dreamweaver this summer during my month off from TATC.

Artifact #2

I selected this artifact as a representative of my best work because I thought that it was a great example of an overall webpage. I created this at the beginning of the TATC course when I was just learning web mastering. I feel that this artifact shows accomplishment as well as growth.

Title: Sunny Daze Travel Resort
Course: This web page project was created in the Web Authoring TATC 2002-2003 course.
Date Created: September 2002

Source: The web page was created using a combination of different software programs. The Internet was used to find graphics and information to use in the web site. All graphics and images found were edited using Adobe Photoshop. I also used a digital camera and edited its contents with Adobe Photoshop as well. Adobe GoLive was the web authoring software that I used to create the entire web page.

Description: In this project we were asked to design a website for a travel company about one of their most traveled destinations. It had to be a minimum of three pages and we could choose any destination that we wanted to. All three types of navigation schemes had to be included: parallel, global and local navigation. You had to decided the overall tone of the project and include all of the following: a storyboard of the site, a home page, company services provided, maps, office hours, links and a site map. Also to be included was the company's logo and test results ran on the finished website. I choose some of the places that I hope to visit one day. I used pictures from the Internet and I also took a couple with my digital camera that were included on the website. I used Adobe GoLive to create my travel website and link all of my pages together. I had to use Adobe Photoshop to edit several pictures that I had found on the Internet as well as the ones that I took with my digital camera. In my travel website I included rollover graphics, bullets, typography, links, pictures, maps, and email addresses.

Rationale: I thought that this was a great overall example of web mastering. By getting to create your own website, you not only have to use the principles of web authoring that you learned, you also get to use your creativity. By incorporating several of the concepts and elements of a good webpage like the three navigation schemes, storyboards, sitemaps, graphics, maps, internal and external links, I felt that this project was an excellent example of a web mastering project.

Implications for future: I think that this would be an excellent project for students to do in a web mastering class because it covers so many important areas of web authoring. I also think that it would be a great idea to let students pick out their own projects. Sometimes it is good to give them a starting point, for example (making them do their webpage over a travel resort), and other times I think it limits their creativity. There are a million things that you could do for a project like this. I can't wait to see what some of my students come up with!

I will probably do another web site towards the end of year after I learn more about GoLive. I think that it would be kind of neat to show my students both sites so that they can compare them and see how much I have improved just in my short time in learning web authoring.

Reviewers Comments:
The navigation of this site is quite simple. Everything was straightforward and it was easy getting to all the pages of the site. The weather link (for the Bahamas) on the site map sent me to the Colorado Information site. I liked you logo, I wish that I could be more creative in that area. I don't do much on my own with drawing. The logo took me back to where I expected, the Home page.
Overall, the functionality of the site worked great. I liked the soft yellow background of the pages. That was easy on the eyes and it made me feel calm and ready to go travel. Nice choice. The sizes of the text and color choices were consistent throughout the site. All of your pictures loaded with zero effort.
No major problems were encountered on your site. Great job, Jamie
