Title: What is our Mood?
Course: This group project was created to satisfy an assignment for the TATC Video Technology course.
Date Created: March 26, 2003
Source: This project was created using collaboration from two other group members. We used the internet for graphics, our own personal camera for parts of the video, and our own CD's to create the audio.
Description: In this project we were assigned groups to create a "mood" piece video with a time limit of 1 minute. We were to establish a basic mood or feeling and present it in webpage form. The requirements of the mood video were: a 1 minute time limit, include a storyboard or script of the video, convey a mood, use at least three edited scenes from their original clip, add sound and roll the credits. After watching the video the audience should be able to give a one word description of our mood conveyed. In order to accomplish this we had to meet as a group and decide on what mood we would like to convey. We had to fulfill a specified roll in the project and communicate with each group member online. Each group member had to find one video clip to use, analyze how to edit the video, write the storyboard for their clip and then send it to the appropriate group member.
Rationale: I choose this piece because I thought that it would be a great example to represent video as well as the collaboration that it took to make it. This project is a great example of working around schedules, conflicting times and computer problems which we incurred while creating this project. This project was also a great example of tying in all of the elements and concepts that we have learned up to this point like: elements of design, use of video software, video editing techniques, selection of appropriate content, file manipulation, using compression software, fulfilling a specified role in a group project and collaborating with colleagues about solving problems in Desktop Publishing
Implications for future: I learned a great deal from this project. I was the producer and editor and I found out that is probably the hardest job for me. I am such a perfectionist that I think that sometimes that hurts me. I have a hard time doing group work, especially online, where I think it is the hardest. From this project I have learned to be more cautious towards my students and giving group work. I feel that group work does help teach students about responsibilities and good communication skills but at the same time, not all students do well in that environment.
Reviewers Comments: Wow! Your presentation really did scream Patriotism! I loved it! What a great mood topic.
I especially enjoyed the transitions, they were great and the music was so stirring! You did a great job!

Title: Mariah Carey's Music Video
Course: This video was created in the TATC 105 Video Technology course.
Date Created: April 14, 2002
Source: Adobe GoLive was used to create the website that housed the entire music video project. Video Deluxe was the video editing software that I choose to use to create and edit the video. GIF Construction was used to create the animation heading and the blinking "new release" sign while Adobe Photoshop was used to edit and rotate the graphics. The Program Cool Edit was used to edit my audio for the video. Graphics and other sources of information were downloaded from the Internet.
Description: For this assignment we had to feature an individual or group's music video. The video had to tell a story and the purpose was to feature of highlight the music for promotion. The video itself had to meet the following requirements: demonstrate knowledge in composition, demonstrate proficiency in basic camera techniques, include background music, use audio and editing techniques to transition the scenes, use character generators, fonts, colors and principles of compositions to create images, include captions and titles and produce the video as a windows media streaming file. The video could not be more than two minutes long. After completing the video, compression was required to condense the file size of the music video. In order to create the video pre-production was required. We had to create a storyboard or script for our music video as well as prepare a project management plan. Additional outside information and links were required to complete this project. The project also had to be displayed through a web page. The web page had to be designed to publicize the individual and feature the music video as the center of attention. Links to our storyboard, project management and additional sites had to be discreetly included.
Rationale: To complete this entire assignment it took me three full weeks and numerous hours. Pre-production was required through a project management plan and a storyboard. The project management plan was very time consuming. I choose to fulfill this assignment using Microsoft Word. The hardest part of this assignment was thinking out the schedule; what to complete on each day. The research plan and release list was not as complex. For the storyboard I created a table in Microsoft Word so that I could plan and line up what I wanted to do for certain durations of time. This storyboard at first was hard for me to get like I wanted it, but once I did, it sure made the production part a lot easier. The Internet was used to find pictures, graphics, supporting websites and videos to incorporate into the final video. I also used my digital camera to capture a short video of an American flag that was used as the introduction in the final music video.
After all the researching was complete I used Adobe Photoshop to edit, crop and rotate the pictures and graphics that were used. I created the music video using the video editing software Video Deluxe. Transition schemes were used to go from one clip to another and I overlapped some pictures to give them a fading in and out look. Background music was easily added using my own personal Mariah Carey CD that I had copied to my library. I then edited the audio using the Cool Edit audio software. I faded the audio out at the end of the song so that it would not abruptly stop. Once the video was completed I compressed the file using compression software.
A web page was created using the video as the center of attention. An animation software program called GIF Construction was used to create the colorful header at the top of the page. Adobe Photoshop was used to create the sign "New Release Video" and GIF Construction was also used to animate the flashing sign. Adobe Photoshop was used to edit, crop and rotate all of the pictures used on the web page. Links were discreetly added and the credits were appropriately sited.
Implications for future: I have really learned a lot be creating this project. The entire lesson has taught me how important it really it to think out your video and you web page before you actually create them. By doing the storyboard, even though it is kind of a pain, it really makes it easier to create the video. It also saves time and some errors because you already have the general idea of what you want it to look like. I have found myself using these pre-production techniques not only throughout the rest of my TATC classes but for my classes that I teach as well. Any project that we did towards the end of the year in my BCIS, Introduction to Business, Recordkeeping or Business Law classes, I made my students create a storyboard and a quick drawing of what they thought their final product would look like. I noticed that it really cut down on some of their errors as well. I am so glad that I have learned this neat little "trick" and it will definitely be used throughout the entire year next year!
Reviewers Comments: Jamie, I think you did a great job and your students should be impressed with your progress. Once you make one video, you can virtually make any kind. I have learned from trial and MUCH ERROR!! :-)
