Use technology-related terms, concepts, data input strategies, and ethical practices to make informed decisions about current technologies and their applications.

Reflection: Technology is constantly changing today's world. As a technology teacher I feel that it is very important for me to stay on top of my field so that I can prepare my students for the real world. I believe that students need to be taught with real world application and experience so that they may go in to the work force prepared and be successful individuals. In order to do this I must stay in touch with all of the technology issues and how they have impacted our society.

Title: The Impact of Multimedia on Society
Course: This report was a group assignment created in the 100 Foundations TATC 2002-2003 course.
Date Created: August 13, 2002

Source: To complete this assignment Microsoft Word was used to save my work in a universal format. The Internet was also used to research information as well as to communicate with group members on-line in a special chat room. Email also played an important part of this assignment.

Description: For this assignment our group had to select one of the TA subjects to research regarding the impact that it has hand on society. We were to analyze the impact on society through research, interview and personal observation. The report had to contain: a brief introduction of the TA subject chosen, a brief history of the impact that the specified TA subject has had on society and a list of resources used with a brief summary of each one. Group roles were chosen and each member reported their resources and responsibilities to the group leader. The report was to be posted in any format that we chose and posted to the discussion area. Our group met on-line in a special chat room so that we could distribute the roles of the group. One group member volunteered to be the group leader and the rest of us divided up sections that were to be included on the report. My role in the project was to write the introduction and collect resources for the report. Each group member was to report their part of the report to the group leader through email. As a group we set deadlines and discussed the next time that we would all meet back on-line to finish any business that needed to be done. When the report was complete our group leader emailed us the final copy so we could look over it for grammatical and spelling errors. Through on-line collaboration our project was complete! The group leader was in charge of posting the report in the proper discussion area in Rich Text Format.

Rationale: I choose this group report because I thought that is was a good representation of the knowledge of subject matter. Technology is constantly changing and we as technology teachers have to stay on top of our field and learn new ways to incorporate new strategies and ideas into our classroom. What better way than doing a group report of the impact that multimedia has had on society. By doing this group report I also learned a great deal about technological collaboration. It is hard to get four schedules to agree on a time to meet and talk about the assignment.

Implications for future: Through this, I experienced what it was like to do group work again. Sometimes we as teachers assign group work and forget about how much "extra" time outside of the room it takes to complete the assignment. Doing this assignment also reminded me of the life long learner that I have become because of the field that I have chosen. Technology changes and we as teachers have to learn new and better ways of doing things.

Reviewers Comments: Great paper! I appreciated your explanation of the value of multimedia in assisting companies, television, and publishers to present their products on the internet. Without multimedia, the internet would be very boring.

Reviewers Comments: In your report you say: Multimedia allows a teacher to grab and hold a student attention by transforming information into a game or music video making the subject more interesting.
This is very true. I wish for a moment that my students could look at the code written for a game and see what all goes into that game. I think they might have more appreciation for the work that goes into programming. Another thought....
Multimedia is a good way for us as technology teachers to work with teachers in other subjects to combine efforts. Just think, if a student could produce a multimedia presentation on the WWII they would have a more meaningful learning experience.
