Media:
Web page using Adobe GoLive, Microsoft Paint, Adobe Photoshop
Description:
Create an image that represents each of the elements and principles of design using one object or a series of objects. Identify the elements and principles of design by creating an image to give an examination of each. I used objects to compose a separate image for each representation and used a web site to deliver my product.
Rationale:
I included the elements of design in my portfolio because I believe it is a very basic and one of the most important concepts that students must master before being able produce good publications.
I did not understand the elements of design before starting this module. I had done research on the different areas but did not understand completely how to apply them to a product. By doing this project I begin to understand the total importance of design and how t apply them.
I researched the principles and elements of design and applied them to an image that I created in Microsoft Paint and enhanced in Photoshop. I created an object I could manipulate and show the elements of design. When applied to the same image this gave me a perspective on how the elements and principles effected of the image. This was a good activity , I plan to use it in my high school classes and my adult classes. I demonstrated that I understood the principles of design and will include it in my portfolio.
Implications for future:
I will implement the elements of design in all of my application classes in the future. It will help my students see that different effects given to an image and will be able to create balance/harmony, emphasis, repetition, and contrast, when using lines, color, and value. Understanding how to identify elements and principles of design can enhance creativity when designing many different kinds of products. Understanding this will enhance the quality of each project in my application classes. I will implement the elements of design in my web mastering class this six weeks.
The Learning Goals set for the future will include the elements and principles of design. As I learn more about the elements of design and learn to apply them I am understanding the impact these skills have on the end product of all types of publications and products. The elements of design will be a concept I will teach and check for understanding with my students before we move on to other skills.
Reviewers Comments:
"I think I am beginning to understand the concepts, thanks.
Your page is wonderful. I really like how you show space with the birdhouse hanging on the tree limb. You draw much better than I can."

Description:
This product was produced to give a brief introduction of myself - not in words but in pictures - draw a picture or make a collage of myself as an online learner. I was to describe myself using a collage of pictures. I used various tools such as rectangular marquee, elliptically marquee, lasso, crop and magic wand to manipulate the pictures into a collage. I applied layering to different areas of the main graphic and added text to complete the collage
Rationale:
I included this because I introduced myself to other TATC learners and I used a new product for the first time to publish a product. Although this appears to be a simple product, the use of a new software package added to the complexity of the project. I learned to use a new software product, Adobe Photoshop. I am very proud of my entry level skills. I had to consider the format that I saved my image in to assure a product that would present itself well. I learned many of the digital graphic editing tools as well as explored the benefits of using different images such as jpg and gif images. I enjoyed this learning experience, it represented an extension of my personality so I am including it in my portfolio.
Implications for future:
This is a great lead in activity for students and adult learners. This activity can be used to not only introduce the person but introduce new software tools and features. By using this activity I will be able to show the different digital graphic editing tools and software products available. I will continue to learn more about Photoshop and other software products as this is one of my main goals.
Reviewers Comments: I had no one to comment on my product.
