Desktop Publishing
The desktop publishing teacher has the knowledge and skills needed to teach the Foundations, Information Acquisition, Work in Solving Problems, Communication strands of the Technology Applications Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) in desktop publishing, in addition to the content described in Technology Applications Standards I-V.
Reflection
When I started working in this area the only experience I had was publishing signs on PrintShop, newsletters on Microsoft Publisher and memos using Microsoft Word. I was looking forward to learning more about Desktop Publishing. After reading Robin Williams' Book, The Non-Design Book, I began to realize that the elements of design such as proximity, alignment, repetition, contrast related to my publications and how they were viewed by the reader. By using this information I was able to create publications that were more professional looking. I now realize the proper use of the principles of design make a more pleasing look to my publications . I have used these elements in teaching desktop publishing to students and teachers as well as applying them to my own published products. I have received many resources and information on Desktop Publishing and plan to expand the curriculum guide for the school that will incorporate the principles of design, resources, and techniques as they apply to the objectives of desktop publishing.

Description:
This project was created in Desktop Publishing, Module 2 on January 21, 2003. The assignment was to design a newsletter using information presented in the interactive guides. The requirements for the newsletter were consider factors such as alignment, drop caps, end symbols, graphics, white space, typography. The graphics should include creative use of color, typography and titling for document; date volume and issue information for user group.
Rationale:
This activity allowed me to create a newsletter using information gained in resources associated with effective elements of design. I was able to use information I had learned to design and produce a newsletter using the elements. I encluded this in my portfoio because it shows the use of the elements of design. I have learned the importance of good design in published products and how to impliment them in my products. This was a skill I did not have before, I believe by leraning these skills in the TA course I will now beable to improve the appearence or all TA products.
Implications for future:
The experience of creating the newsletter gave me practice in using the elements of design. With this information I am now able to better critique products based on the elements of design. I will need to continue practice in this area . I will be better prepared to teach my students the elements of design and incorporate these principles in all Technology Application products.
