Task Appropriate Tools in Problem-Solving

Use task-appropriate tools to synthesize knowledge, create and modify solutions, and evaluate results in a way that supports the work of individuals and groups in problem-solving situations.

Reflection

Using technology to enhance teaching is being used more and more by educators in the classroom. We are finding technology applications are a vital tool in presenting materials for teaching purposes. Teachers are finding that research on any subject is at their fingertips with use of the internet. They are using this information, as a teaching tool and they are finding new ways for students to present their work using technology application skills and knowledge.

Description:
We discussed the purpose of a Web server and the advantages and disadvantages of hosting a site on an intranet rather than the Internet and is it better to set up your own web server or use a hosting service when publishing a web site.

Rationale:

This assignment gave me an opportunity to research information on web servers. As schools and businesses enter into the technology age their are many decision to be made on what kind of web service will serve their needs. One of my assignments for the school district is to determine the hardware needs of our district. After completing this project I had a better understanding of the many aspects of web posting and hosting.

Implications for future:

Entities that are looking for a web hosting service or chose to have their on web server will need to continually look for new services that will serve their needs. Since the school district relies on me to make these decisions it is the knowledge I have gained from this information is very important to the school district and to me.

I will be able to present this information to teachers to help them understand how research to use technology skills and knowledge as a tool to teach. I plan to use this kind of assignment in my teacher integration workshops and in my community workshops.
