Standards II
Acquire, Analyze, and Evaluate Information
Identify task requirements, apply search strategies, and use current technology to efficiently acquire, analyze, and evaluate a variety of electronic information.
Reflection
Students must be able to obtain information from various resources, including the interenet, and analize and evaluate it to determine the validity and quality for the project. This is a skill that is sometimes difficult to teach students because they seem to think "if it comes from the internet" it is true. This informtion needs to begin in the early years of development and continue in every aspect of the students education.
Students need to be able to identify the task and then determine the needs of the project. What software is neded? What hardware needs do I need t consider? There are many questions a student must ask before beginning a project.
The group project helped me understand how very important this standand is to all aspects of any project.

Description:
As a group we were to form a company and select one of the TA subjects to research regarding the impact that it has had on society. We were to analyze the impact on society through research, interviews, and personal observation. Some things to consider in our analyst were the concepts related to persuasiveness, marketing, role played, and point of view. We were to select one of the TA subjects, we selected Web Authoring.
The company's report had a brief introduction as to the TA subject, a brief history of the impact that Web Authoring has had on society; resources listed with a brief summary of each resource site. Two or more resources should be referenced to each company member with the exception of the group leader.
The company member responsibilities: One person volunteered to be the leader. This person will make sure things are moving and happening like they should. The company leader will be responsible for compiling the report with input from the company members and posting the final report. Each company member, except the group leader, should have three or more resources attributed to them.
Rationale:
This assignment was to be completed in an online group environment. This was a challenge to all of us for we were quick to realize that organization was a key factor in making connections and meetings for planning sessions. This was a good experience for the most part but we did have one member that had technology problems. We all had to be creative in resolving this problem.
We had to identify the task at hand and create a plan to accomplish the task. Once this was completed, we applied search strategies and technology to efficiently acquire, analyze, and evaluate electronic information pertaining to Web Authoring. Combining all sources of information we were able to create a well rounded report that showed how web authoring has impacted society.
Implications for future:
I have always been an advocate of cooperative learning and group projects. I believe with the many different skill levels of students, group work allows for peer learning, after all in the market place the majority of jobs require skills associated with a cooperative effort. Students are responsible for a certain part of the final project this gives them the opportunity to work at their skill level to obtain, analyze and evaluate electronic information.
I will use this type of assignment in my all of my Technology Application classes. A majority of the technology application classes require that students study the impact it has on society. I really like the sharing of information, this kind of activity builds self confidence and team work.
Reviewers Comments:
"Great information on web authoring and its impact on society. Isn't it amazing how far this area has come in such a relatively short time? I enjoyed your reports on the past, present, and future of web authoring. I bookmarked some of your sites to use. Your web page is attractive and cheerful. I like the font...it seemed friendly and made me want to read more."
