Web Mastering

The Web mastering teacher has the knowledge and skills needed to teach the Foundations, Information Acquisition, Work in Solving Problems, Communication strands of the Technology Applications Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) in Web mastering, in addition to the content described in Technology Applications Standards I-V.

Reflection

My web authoring knowledge and skills have been very limited to this point. I have created a web page using Microsoft Publisher but had never gone beyond entry level skills. This course gave me the foundation to be able to guide students as they create a web site for the schools internet and intranet. Our school board policy does not allow pictures or names of students on the Internet web site so with the skills I have learned the students in classes can now enjoy the use of an intranet to post pictures and names of their peers in school events.

As I reflect back on the web travel assignment, I remember being very nervous about creating the pages. I have not worked with web pages on GoLive before and had to learn how to use the software. I have not created a complete web page on Adobe GoLIve before this assignment. I also had much to learn about what kind of graphics to use. The excitement of creating a web site with a non school related subject added to the enjoyment of the assignment.

Media:

Description:
The assignment was to create a web page for a travel company focusing on a specific site travel destination. I was required to include the following in my web site: global, parallel, and local navigation schemes, the information architecture of "bread crumbs", storyboard, home page, company services page, map, office, links other sites, site map, company logo, photos and results from a test performed on one page.

Rationale:
I included this product because by completing this project I was able to see the overall picture of creating web pages from many different view points. Before completing this assignment I looked at web page as teacher in a school district teaching students the application itself.  After this artifact I understand the many different aspects of creating a web page. Not only was I able to see the content of the site as a business person but was able to see it from the view point of the creator and designer. This project helped my understand the use the design elements from the view point of a designer and a client. I was able to understand, a little better, the use of html as I developed the site.

Implications for future:
I now have some experience in analyzing the needs of a web site. I understand the use of graphics and the kinds of graphics to use in a site. I have the knowledge to direct my students in proper web site design and content. The feedback and suggestions given to me by TATC participants were very much appreciated. I will use the skills and knowledge I have learned in this assignment to teach TA classes and teacher workshops.

Media:
Digital Graphics edited in PhotoShop and PhotoSuite, Web site created in GoLive.

Description:
The assignment was to create a photo gallery web page that the viewer can scroll through, one photo at a time. This was an interesting assignment to do because it was all so new to me and I used pictures from my 3 year old grandsons awards ceremony.

Rationale:
I included this project in my portfolio because this I have never created anything like this and the experience was all new to me. I created a photo gallery from pictures taken of a family event associated with my vacation web site. This artifact is important because it is my first try at using JavaScript to enhance a web page.

Implications for future:
This assignment allowed me to explore and learn about JavaScript. Advisability was difficult to understand in the beginning. I have a respect for those that use it and will continue to learn more about it. I have found several sites and ordered books that have helped me learn more about it.

This feature will be a good addition to our school web site. Students maintain the school internet web site and the intranet web site. The use of JavaScript by the students will certainly enhance the web sites. We will have many instances in which to use JavaScript on our web page.

Music Video

Video Technology 105

Date Created:

Media:

Adobe GoLive, Video Wave, Dazzle

Description:

This assignment was to create a music video and link it to a web page.

Music video requirements:.

Video Requirements:

  • Demonstrate knowledge in composition such as ratio of image to frame, position in frame, line of gaze, pan/tilts, movement, and perspective.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in basic camera techniques such as zoom, focus, iris control, white balance, and filters.
  • Utilize lighting techniques such as key, fill, and backlight, using incandescent/reflected light, color temperatures, and filter use.
  • Include control and/or time coded tracks, transitions, audio levels, and background music.
  • Use audio and editing techniques to transition the scenes. What many music videos do is to change scenes on the beat of the music.
  • Use character generators, fonts, colors, and principles of composition to create graphic images.
  • Include captions and/or titles for video and graphics.
  • Produced as a windows media streaming file and accessed from the TATC windows media streaming server.
  • Two minutes maximum. Although it is difficult to specify any kind of an arbitrary length for the video, it should be limited in scope and complexity given the short production and post-production schedules that will be necessary in this course.

The video had to be provided as a windows media (streaming) file. All video clips were compressed and saved as wmv or asf.

The Video Drop folder for all of your videos is located on the course desktop.
We had to use the Video Drop to post our video.

Web Page Requirements:

  • It must be designed to publicize the music group or individual and feature the music video as the center of interest.,
The design of the web page should be in keeping with the message of the video,
It is important to consider what effect you want this video to have on its audience, and
  • For project documentation, discreetly include links to your storyboard and project management plan.

Rationale:

This project was one of the most time consuming projects I have done. I enjoyed the challenges it had to offer, a great learning experience. I included this project in my portfolio as one of my best works because it was a challenge and had so many learning experiences. I used the internet to gain resources for the video and used more applications to publish this product than any other project. I was a terrific learning experience.

Implications for future:

The skills and knowledge I was exposed to in this project were tremendous. I not only gained the skills to gather information for the curriculum but have already scheduled classes for the summer community classes, this will be fun. The next school year I hope to be able to teach video technology, it is an high end course I believe my students are ready for.

Reviewers Comments:

"It worked for me today, Jerry! Super job! Your video was clear and well timed with the song. Pictures and videos were perfect for your theme. Such sweeties--was the littlest one Cindy's? I loved the pond/water feature that the little boy and girl were playing in. It was beautiful. I had never heard of this song or artist, but the song was beautiful so you certainly convinced me to check further. Congratulations on a job well done!"
