Informed Decision Making

Use technology-related terms, concepts, data input strategies, and ethical practices to make informed decisions about current technologies and their applications.

One of the current technologies that I have implemented in my classroom is the use of animation software such as Macromedia Flash. The vocabulary for this application is new to the students because of the use of the timeline, keyframes and stage. In the process of learning this software, the students learn to input pictures from the Internet, scan images and draw graphics. Also, I stress the ethics of using other people's images and the need for permission to edit or morph images. The concept of creating an original animation is always appealing to students. They love the creative aspects of the software and the quality of the final product is always a surprise to the kids.

Artifact #11

Descriptors: Class discussion of animation software

Title:Animation Evolution in 2D or 3D Software

Course: Digital Graphics 101

Date Created: October 29, 2002

Source: Personal knowledge, Internet. Macromedia Websites

Media: Word Document, Rich Text Format

Description: This was a discussion about some major development in animation software. We were to give some pro's and con's of using this animation form in the classroom. As a vector-based program, Flash allows the user to produce graphics that are ready for the web.

Rationale: This discussion made me more aware of the software I was using; also I found more resources and information to use for my classes. Working with animation software is relatively new and most students have limited experience. Pictures, text and video can all easily be imported into Flash software, so students can produce very complex graphics quickly. The artifact is useful in that it includes links to the download and other resources to help you get started in Macromedia Flash.

Implications for future: I will continue to teach Flash animation in my graphics classes. I currently have three two ex students enrolled at TSTC and DeVry who are working on degrees in computer graphics and drafting. I like to think that my class inspired them to pursue their talents in this area. Now that I am more informed, I believe that I can help my students begin post-secondary education with a better foundation of skills.

Reviewers Comments: Danita, I chose your project because I knew nothing about Flash...thanks for the review and the information.....I really learned alot!!! Great Job!!
