Instruction that Incorporates Technology

Know how to plan, organize, deliver, and evaluate instruction for all students that incorporates the effective use of current technology for teaching and integrating the Technology Applications Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) into the curriculum.

Personal Reflection:
This particular standard allowed the class to venture in areas to help us plan, produce and present information that is of a beneficial and helpful manner for students. We were required then to evaluate our work by preparing our own rubric. Through the entire process, it has become very important to me to be able to synthesize and evaluate information in this structured manner. It helps the student to be more aware of the goals that are ahead of them as well as the standards that are expected to be applied. I believe that this is a very important area of study and I plan to continue the use of these processes.

Artifact #12 with Grading Rubric

Descriptors: web page, instruction, organization, web page design, Cascading Style Sheets, rubric design, and web page evaluation

Title: Dreamweaver MX Teacher Help Site

Course: TATC 202 Extended Web Authoring

Date Created: December 16 and 17, 2002

Media: Macromedia Dreamweaver MX, Photoshop 7

Description: For this assignment, we were to prepare a web related site to help teachers prepare web pages. We were to select a particular software or subject to provide instructions for and were required to keep our audience in mind at all times where it pertained to navigation, color and page design, as well as content. During the entire process, we were required to prepare the page with cascading style sheets to aid in the design styles to keep continuity throughout the site. We were then required to create a custom rubric designed for our particular requirements for the site.

Rationale: I chose this particular artifact for this example because we were required to plan, organize, deliver and evaluate our own work as well as that of our fellow classmates. During the entire project we followed the following process which reflects the standards quite well:

  • selected an appropriate topic for our web site that would help the teachers at our school to understand web site construction and application better,
  • designed and applied a web page layout utilizing Cascading Style Sheets,
  • planned and laid out the basic structure of the teacher help site,
  • gathered, organized and synthesized data for use in the teacher help site,
  • prepared the final web page utilizing appropriate content, good digital graphic concepts, Cascading Style Sheet techniques and appropriate concepts of design,
  • posted the final product for fellow classmates to evaluate and provide recommendations on,
  • prepare and post a custom rubric prepared specifically for this activity to help evaluate the production and level of higher thinking concepts that were applied to the final product.

Implications for future: This particular activity helped me to step in the direction that I honestly want to be headed towards in the future--teacher instruction and support. Throughout this activity I could see that the use of rubrics can aid a student in the final production of the activities for a class because a more specific idea of what is expected is provided. Although rubrics are not easy to produce, it is a useful and powerful tool to help students to reach their expected potential in an activity.

I plan to utilize rubrics in my classroom more often because I am positive that it can truly help to prepare more aware and productive students.
