Web Mastering
The Web mastering teacher has the knowledge and skills needed to teach the Foundations, Information Acquisition, Work in Solving Problems, Communication strands of the Technology Applications Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) in Web mastering, in addition to the content described in Technology Applications Standards I-V.

Personal Reflection:
Web mastering is an area that I have always wanted to grow and investigate. I have known for a long time that there are many facets to web mastering and design that are concepts that you can't really learn without getting hands-on experience. The experiences that I was able to obtain in this class have been invaluable and I am very grateful for the opportunity to venture into areas that I have not felt that comfortable in such as JavaScript and Cascading Style Sheets. I plan to continue the learning process but I know that I probably would not have had the confidence to grow more in this area had I not had the support of my classmates and instructor.

Title: 101 Adventures Lighthouse Tours Travel Page

Course: Web Authoring 102

Date Created: September 29, 2002

Source: Personal knowledge, Macromedia Dreamweaver MX, Macromedia Flash 5, reading and interactive guides

Media: Web page format

Description: A three page travel site created for an 'imaginary' travel agency that specializes in certain types of tours. My topic choice for this artifact was for lighthouse tours enjoyed on the Oregon coastline. The site was to show location, services, examples of a tour and links to outside sites. We were required to have clear navigation, bread crumbs (so the viewer would know what pages they had come from) as well as appropriate content and images.

This particular page was created using Macromedia Dreamweaver MX. The animated buttons were created using Macromedia's Flash 5 program.

Rationale: I selected this page for use in the portfolio for this standard because of the entire process that went into the preparation of this page.

The first stage for this page was to decide on the customer, look at the needs of the customer as well as the user's needs. The page had to be easy to load, easy to understand, to the point, and comprehensive about services provided by the company.

The logo and animated navigation buttons were created with the company in mind. These were created in Photoshop.

I sketched out the page design/layout before I started creating the page in Dreamweaver which helped with navigation, and design in the long-run.

After setting up the entire page, external and internal links were checked and weeded for unnecessary links. The images were checked for optimized sizes and fast upload speeds.

The entire page was uploaded to my portfolio page and input was requested from fellow classmates.

Implications for future:After participating in this activity, I can see the need for keeping in mind the user's understanding of natural navigation of a page. Using the HOME buttons as well as leaving the bread crumbs for the user allows the user to utilize the navigation tools the way they were meant to be. This will help me in my design concepts in the future.

Reviewers Comments:
Jamie Crider (TATC Participant) "I think that Diana did an excellent job on her travel project. I enjoyed looking at her web page because her pictures were so beautiful!! I also really liked the animation in her breadcrumbs. It really added to the site. " (10/1/02)

Marta M. Merlino-Calvert (TATC Participant) "Everything loaded just fine. Your multimedia image worked great. I’m partial to some kind of colored or patterned background, as long as it is not distracting to the eye. Your use of white was plain, yet worked just fine for the site and it didn’t take away anything overall." (9/30/02)

Descriptors: HTML lists and Web Design concepts

Title: Lists in HTML

Course: 102 Web Authoring

Date Created:9/16/02

Source: Personal HTML knowledge and www.webmonkey.com

Media: PowerPoint published for the web

Description: In this activity, we chose areas of HTML that we would like to research and instruct on. After personal research, we were to prepare a web page, paper or presentation that would teach a student how to program that particular element in HTML. I chose to research and present on HTML lists. Through research, organization and explanation, the person preparing the presentation would learn more and therefore be able to teach the subject more completely.

Rationale: I selected this activity because it utilizes one of the key concepts taught in Web Authoring--HTML. HTML, which is the 'language of the Internet has become a necessary subject to be taught. Without a key knowledge of HTML, it is almost impossible to be as thorough in web authoring and design as we need to be.

This activity required organization of web authoring concepts, HTML terms and concepts as well as utilization of a software that could turn the presentation into a web-based object. Through the use of PowerPoint, I was able to divide the concepts to different slides, including key concepts about HTML lists that could cause problems. The elements of white- space, proximity and color were kept in mind during the development of this page.

After the project was done, I published the file for the web and posted it, realizing that Netscape Navigator did not view it completely. This was also a learning experience. After uploading the file, classmates commented on the presentation and provided input.

Implications for future:
For the future, I want to stress the importance of the use of HTML in web design and authoring. Through my own experience, I can honestly say that there is a large amount still to learn about HTML that would benefit my skills. This is my goal for the future--to learn more to utilize this language skill in the future.

Allysa Muntean (TATC Participant) "Your work is truly amazing. I learned more by going through your presentation than I did on my own research." (10/02/02)
