Informed Decision Making

Use technology-related terms, concepts, data input strategies, and ethical practices to make informed decisions about current technologies and their applications.

Personal Reflection:
This was a great area of reinforcement for me. By working in groups we were allowed to get to know each other a little bit better. At the beginning of a long class like this, it was nice to get to know my classmates in this format.

The research and development of the report was comprehensive and tedious, but it did make me aware of what we were going to have to produce in the future as well.

Title: The Busy Buddies Investigate Web Authoring

Course: TATC 101 Foundations

Date Created: August 2002

Source: Group research, collaboration and Internet research

Media: Dreamweaver and HTML

Description:
As groups, we were to prepare a well researched report providing sources and thorough supported detail on the development of on TA subject (Digital Graphics, Animation, Desktop Publishing, Video Technology, Multimedia or Web Authoring) and its impact on society.

We were expected to provide the following information:

  • the general history of the subject area,
  • the role that this area played in the change of marketing and consumers,
  • the areas of impact and the role it has had on society,
  • sources used,
  • role listing and credits for work.

Rationale:
First we were required to assemble into groups. Groups were chosen for different reasons but location was a big contributing factor. Then, we were assigned the job of selecting a TA subject to research in regards to the impact that it has had on society. My group chose web authoring.

During the preparation process for the report we did the following:

  • organized and chose our group,
  • assigned duties related to research and general organization for the report,
  • researched the subject of web authoring by first researching the history of the Internet,
  • researched using different techniques,
  • transferred information electronically and physically to each other,
  • collaborated constantly on the data retrieved,
  • verified data integrity,
  • compared and selected appropriate and accurate data,
  • designed and entered data into the web page format,
  • provided links to sites and sources relating to our report,
  • provided a breakdown of individual roles and duties,
  • posted the final project online for reviews and criticisms.

Implications for future:
I believe that research and development of reports is definitely an area that can be beneficial and crucial. Through research and verification, it is easy to see how this area can be taken for granted.

I plan to work on this area with my students and to continue to research using the strategies applied during this activity when required to do so.

Reviewers Comments:

Ronnie Miller (TATC Participant) "I am really impressed with the web style report. The timeline of developments was very informative and will be useful to all of us." (08/13/02)

Jamie D. Crider (TATC Participant) "This project was very impressing and very detailed. I like the way yall did it in a web page. The resources were easier to access that way." (08/13/02)
