Multimedia

The multimedia teacher has the knowledge and skills needed to teach the Foundations, Information Acquisition, Work in Solving Problems, Communication strands of the Technology Applications Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) in multimedia, in addition to the content described in Technology Applications Standards I-V.

Reflection:

I was very excited about learning more about Multimedia and the skills required to teach the course in a way that students would be able to see and understand all the many components to Multimedia. I needed to learn more about how to pull all of the components together, and through the readings, research, and various projects I was able to see first hand how graphics, animation, text, and video can be used for an effective presentation tool. I enjoyed this course for many reasons, but mainly because it tied in all parts of  the TA's, and upon completion of the course I felt as though the resources and projects enabled me to experience and understand how I could tie all the parts together effectively.

In the future, my goals are to continue to enhance my skills in Multimedia. I also plan to use many of the great resources and lesson ideas in my future classes.  Multimedia is all around us, and I hope to encourage students to recognize the different components while applying the necessary skills to create effective presentations.

Artifact 12

Descriptors: Animation (Splash page), Video, Graphics, Web Page

Title: Interactive Internet Photo Album

Course: 103 Multimedia

Date Created: February 2003

Source: Individual project using Microsoft Front Page, Microsoft PowerPoint

Media: Animation-Microsoft GIF Animator, Web Page-Microsoft Front Page, Presentation-Microsoft PowerPoint

Description: The assignment was to create an interactive photo album of our life or an aspect of. The assignment consisted of a animated splash page in combination with a web page which included video, graphics (a combination of vector and/or bitmapped graphics summarized), brief description of pictures used, link or embedded  presentation of our  photo album  with title, and a credits page. After deciding on the animation, I then scanned the pictures to be used. I incorporated them into a PowerPoint presentation and provided a summary of them in the web page. The video used was originally created with a camcorder then downloaded to be used in the presentation, and linked from the web page.

Rationale: I wanted to include this artifact in my portfolio because it shows the various ways in which I was able to  improve my skills concerning animation, graphics, web design, and the use of presentation software. I chose to use pictures of self as part of my splash page which would then lead into the web page that included a summary of the pictures and graphics used in my presentation. The focus of the presentation was my family. Because of the various elements covered in this particular assignment, I was able to learn more about vector and bitmapped graphics, as well as an introduction to video. Creating the presentation using PowerPoint was something familiar to me, but I needed the experience of integrating it into a web page. With the help of the reading guides and explanations of vector and bitmapped graphics, I feel as though I gained more insight into the terminology and general skills associated with multimedia.

Implications for future: I hope to use this particular assignment in my multimedia class. It exhibits a great overview of many of the multimedia elements. It allows a person to be creative while exhibiting their skills in the collaboration of graphics, video, and presentation. The area I hope to focus on in the future is animation. This is an area that I have the least experience with. Therefore, a specific goal of mine is to be able to feel more comfortable and confident with animation creation.

Reviewers Comments: I loved your Interactive Photo Album.  The directions on your page were easy to follow and the navigation was simple.   I liked the way you put the picture progression of yourself in your introduction.  It was very cool and something the students would enjoy doing as well. You apologized for being an amateur when you used the video of your son, but I thought it was wonderful (Our children are always our best subjects anyway :) You did a wonderful job on this assignment and you should be very proud.

 Artifact 13   Best Work

Descriptors: Multimedia, web authoring (storyboard and timeline), sound, and video

TitleMovie Integration

Course: 103 Multimedia

Date Created: March 7, 2003

Source: Individual project using Microsoft Front Page, Internet research for sound and video

Media: Web page-Microsoft Front Page, Video-Internet, Sound- Cool Edit

Description: The movie integration assignment was based on a multimedia product based on our favorite movie or TV show. The movie I chose was "Divine Secrets of the YA-YA Sisterhood". A summary of the target audience was to be included, as well as persuasive information about the movie or TV show. The goal was to "sell" our product so that the target audience would want to watch the movie or TV show. I was able to use any format required to produce the product. The sound file, created previously, was also required as part of the multimedia product. This required much planning to ensure the completion of the web page, storyboard, appropriate links to the show (and within the page), a timeline, video clip, edited sound file, and credits to sites or graphics used.

Rationale: The assignment to create a multimedia product based on our favorite movie or TV show was a great way to incorporate sound, video, and web design. It was a challenging process, because so  many components were required. I am including this as my artifact, as well as designating it as my best work, because it incorporated so many skills that are so very crucial in not only Multimedia, but across the TA standards. I consider this project to be one of the most rewarding experiences because of the vast skills I learned throughout the entire process. I was able to be creative, yet gain more and more knowledge in the area of sound editing, web authoring, and overall presentation skills. All of these things combined were crucial in creating a persuasive, multimedia presentation.

Implications for future: The assignment extended way beyond just one area in multimedia. It was a combination of video, sound editing, establishing a target audience, and web page design. I will definitely use this assignment in my class in the future as a way for students to be challenged while having fun creating a well rounded presentation.

Reviewers Comments: Super job, Deanna! Your page layout was user friendly and I loved your colors. Great choice of colors, fonts, and the sunflower background. Good work!
