Task Appropriate Tools in Problem-Solving
Use task-appropriate tools to synthesize knowledge, create and modify solutions, and evaluate results in a way that supports the work of individuals and groups in problem-solving situations.
Reflection:
Being able to use the
appropriate tools to synthesize important
information is critical in today's research. I
hope to find successful ways for individuals and
groups to work together in researching, and
providing solutions that can help to further
explain certain fields.

Artifact #3
Descriptors: Internet
research, interviews, personal observation
Title: Impact Reports
Course: 100 Foundations
Date Created: August
12, 2002
Source: Group project
Media: Web page
Description: This
artifact is a result of a group project. The
first decision the group had to make was what TA
subject to cover. We chose Multimedia to
research the impact it has had on society. The
TA subject could be analyzed through research,
interviews, and personal observation. Here were
the things our observation needed to consider:
concepts related to persuasiveness, marketing,
role played, and point of view. The main goal
was to provide a resource for others interested in
the TA subject of our choice; therefore, a list
of resources was required to give more
information on the impact of the subject on
society. The report included a brief introduction
to Multimedia, a brief history of the impact
Multimedia has had, and resources listed with a
brief summary of each resource site. With the
exception of the group leader, the others in the
group were required to come up with three or
more resources. After determining the group
roles and TA subject, we researched to find the
appropriate information for our report. A web
page was created to post our report. We then
selected one resource from our research that we
thought was the best reference on the TA subject
and its impact on society. We added a brief
summary of the resource into the Web Links area
for others to view and use. The comments in the
discussion required us to mention what we
learned from reviewing the reports, similarities
and differences we discovered in the TA
subjects, and our opinion on working
together online.
Rationale: I
included this as an artifact because it reveals
a product that was created through collaborative
efforts. These efforts were accomplished by all
group members fulfilling their group role responsibility
while synthesizing the knowledge found through
research, observation, and evaluation. I feel as
though it was a great team effort which provided
some very useful information on the impact of
Multimedia on our society. It also gives
great resources that can be used to reveal the
history of Multimedia and its overall
definition. On a personal note, I was able to
interview a relative of mine that has had extraordinary
experience in the field of multimedia, and has
seen its effects globally over a period of
time. This makes the artifact even more special
since I was able to learn more about the TA
subject on a personal basis. The resources
accumulated through the report are ones that I
find to be very useful. The report meets the
expectations of providing a well rounded
explanation of the impact Multimedia has on our
society.
Implications for future:
Through the group effort of creating a report on
the impact of Multimedia, I have been able to
refer back to the numerous resources to enhance
my own Multimedia course. I plan to use an
activity such as this to cover the TA standards,
such as evaluating electronic information, participate
with other online learners, and extending the
learning environment beyond the classroom. I
hope to incorporate more opportunities to report
on observations and interviews so that students
can experience various ways to acquire
information.
Reviewers Comments: Excellent summaries. I was
easy to pick out which links were of immediate
interest. I went through the whole site and will
use some of these references in the future.
