Acquire, Analyze, and Evaluate Information
Identify task requirements, apply search strategies, and use current technology to efficiently acquire, analyze, and evaluate a variety of electronic information.
Reflection:
Learning about current
technology requires being able to acquire
necessary information then evaluating it to be
used to complete a certain task. Whether it be
for sound editing purposes or for finding the
best suitable software program for a class, it
is important to always research and use the
information to help make a decision. My goal is
to incorporate this type of research and
strategy in my own TA classes to further
student's understanding of the various ways in
which information can be acquired and
used.

Artifact #2
Descriptors: Review of
sound editing software, use of software to edit
sound
Title: Sound Editing
Software
Course: 103 Multimedia
Date Created: March 4,
2003
Source: Individual
project using Internet Research, sound editing
demos
Media: Internet
research, PDF file, MP3 sound file
Description: The first
decision at the beginning of the project was to
sign up for a sound editing software program to
research and review. After doing this, we were
to provide a summary of the sound editing
software. We could base the report on a trial or
demo version if the actual application of the
software was unavailable. I researched Super
Dooper Music Looper by the way of the Internet
to compile the software program's information.
There were several requirements to acquire about
the software program, for example, name, price,
location or web site to see the software, ease
of use, brief review on software program, feasibility,
features, editing capabilities, file
input/output, and our opinion on the software.
Then we were to create a sound file by editing
two sounds together. We were able to use the
sound editing software we had evaluated or we
could use another editing program, such as a
trial version or demo. The sound file was later
used in the Movie Integration project.
Rationale: I feel as
though this is an artifact that can be used for
Standard II because there were task requirements
involved, as well as searching strategies,
acquiring, analyzing, and evaluating information
on sound editing programs. Not only did this
help me to learn about a sound editing program,
but through the group discussion, I was able to
learn about several different programs. I later
purchased a sound editing program based on the
summary of one of my peers. It helped me to see
other's input and evaluations on a number of
programs. It also provided a way to incorporate
some of the sound editing skills to create a
sound file to be later used in another project.
I tried several different demos and trial
version before finding the one that I used. I
feel as though that helped me a great deal in
seeing the various techniques and methods used
to edit sound. The project covered many of the
TEKS, dealing with sound editing, capturing,
sampling/sequencing, and also by evaluating the
sound editing software programs.
Implications for future:
I have used the findings from this project in
many ways, as well as those summaries from my
peers. It was very useful to me since I was in
the process of searching out a economical yet
useful sound editing program. In the future, I
will continue to use my sound editing skills to
enhance certain presentations and productions. I
hope to learn more about the sound editing
software I purchased, and share with my students
the various ways in which it can manipulate or
create a sound to be used effectively.
Reviewers Comments: You
always do such a nice job on your projects!
I had the same problem with not finding
exactly what I wanted and tried several
different software.
I'm a little overwhelmed with what it
took to create the sound file, but a little more
experienced!
