Informed Decision Making

Use technology-related terms, concepts, data input strategies, and ethical practices to make informed decisions about current technologies and their applications.

Reflection:

It was important for me to consider the audience and subject matter before deciding how I was going to present the information. When dealing with technological terms and concepts, it is important to research the most current findings. I hope to continue to stay up with the current methods and their applications so that the information I present will be relevant to the audience.

Artifact #1

Descriptors: Internet research on methods of capturing images, digital camera/video use, Microsoft PowerPoint

Title: Digitally Capturing Images, Image Integrity, File Formats

Course: 101 Digital Graphics and Animation

Date Created: October 2002

Source: Internet research, PowerPoint presentation, self owned video

Media: Microsoft PowerPoint

Description: The first part of the assignment was to choose one of the following topics to research:

Image File Formats

How to Capture Images

File Sizes and How to Reduce Them While Maintaining File Integrity

I chose how to capture images by using a digital camera and digital video camera. We had to research the topic, as well as use our own prior knowledge about the subject to deliver a clear explanation. The delivery method could have been a website, presentation, video clip, or a written summary. I decided to use a PowerPoint presentation to try and cover information regarding how to capture images. Two or more methods had to be presented. A description of the method, plus a list of advantages and disadvantages must be included. The product also had to have graphic examples and a source page of 2 or more URL links. A summary of the topic was also required. The layout had to be presented using the Principles of Design.

Rationale: The presentation on capturing images gave me the opportunity to research and learn more about these technology terms and concepts, and to decide what the appropriate method would be on delivering the information to my peers. I feel as though the presentation was a creative approach to teaching these methods. It gives a visual attempt at explaining the methods, concepts, and the advantages and disadvantages. One of my goals was to be able to call attention to some methods or concepts that might be useful for someone else. I included the artifact because I feel that it is a project that covers  a range of TEKS including, digital graphic terminology, examples of digitally created images, Principles of Design, Internet research , and  hands on experience in creating a presentation. I know it will be a useful resource for myself, as well as a great activity to include in my digital graphics class.

Implications for future: Anytime I am able to learn or present information visually helps me to gain a better perspective of the subject matter. The research enabled me to see other ways in which images could be captured, which I intend to use often in the future TA classes that I teach. I will use this artifact as both a presentation for further explaining the methods on how to capture images, and also as an assignment activity for my class. I feel that it is important to continue to research such methods so that I can be up to date on the current methods and hardware requirements; therefore, in the future I will be updating and enhancing this kind of presentation.

Reviewers Comments: Colors kept interest. Good visual presentation of information.
