Best Work: The making of Frankenstein

Instruction that Incorporates Technology

Know how to plan, organize, deliver, and evaluate instruction for all students that incorporates the effective use of current technology for teaching and integrating the Technology Applications Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) into the curriculum.

Reflection: I have heard it said that if you fail to plan, then you plan to fail. This is my weakest area. I believe I have good ideas but I lack the planning skills needed to see them to completion. I know that this not only affects me but also my students.

Throughout the TATC program I have learned more about planning, organizing, delivering, and evaluating. Each course emphasized different planning techniques. I feel more empowered by the planning and evaluation tools that I learned. Now I can say that I have a better plan of action.

I selected this artifact as one of my best works, because I saw that planning did not dampen my creativity. At first it was difficult, because I wanted to jump to the end product. Now I realize that the planning stages of a product are just as rewarding as the final product. After carefully planning each step of the the assignment, I was very happy with the final results. I felt very successful when I completed my unit lesson.

Title: The Making of Frankenstein

Course: Digital Graphics/Animation

Date Created: November 6, 2003

Source: Internet, Yearbook photos, and personal knowledge

Media: Macromedia Dreamweaver, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe LiveMotion, and Word

Description: I thought that a good way to learn more about digital graphics would be to create a monster. Students would be able to bring pictures to be scanned and then edited, a pin-up monster. Students will learn different cropping techniques through out the process. After the monster is completed, then comes the task of bringing the monster to life with the use of animated.

"What you are about to see is one of my finest experiments! But you must be warned this will not be pretty. I am afraid that I have not perfected my creation. If you feel a little screamish, you may leave by clicking on the back button. I just hope you can make it!

I call my creation Frankenstein. He is a collection of parts from many brave victims, I mean volunteers. He was put together in my computer laboratory with tools from Adobe Photoshop and brought to life with my secret formula.....Adobe LiveMotion"

Rationale: No pun intended but I hope that this type of assignment will take the fear out of learning new software and new concepts. I think that once the students become familiar with the cutting and pasting of the different features that they would now be able to move on to a more complex assignment. I do not believe that this assignment would be too difficult or intimidating to a student.

Implications for future: I hope to use this assignment in my class. Again, learning how to manipulate a photo would help the students learn new software and apply their skills to future assignments.

Reviewers Comments: Great website. I love the whole laboratory - Frankenstein theme. My kids are going to love this. It's alive! That's funny.
