Communicate Information

Communicate information in different formats and for diverse audiences.

Reflection: Ready or not, the WWW has changed the way we as a society communicate. The world may becoming smaller but the amount of information is only growing larger. As an educator, I believe that it is important to prepare our students for this new and exciting way of communicating. The more confident that we are in this area the better we can prepare our students.

One important thing to teach our students is the fact that no two people will see things the same. We all have our prejudices and perspectives that are unique to ourselves. We also have different abilities and limitations. This brings to mind accessibility issues. I learned about making web sites more accessible in Foundations 100.

Title: Web Impact Report
by The Big Country Tech Teachers

Course: Foundations 100

Date Created: August 13, 2002

Source: WWW and Collaborative Project

Media: MS Word, Adobe Acrobat, WWW

Description: As the company formed from Module 1, select one of the TA subjects (Digital Graphics, Animation, Desktop Publishing, Video Technology, Multimedia or Web Authoring) to research regarding the impact that it has had on society. Analyze the impact on society through research, interviews, and personal observation. Some things to consider in your analyst should be the concepts related to persuasiveness, marketing, role played, and point of view.

The report must include:

  • Brief introduction as to the TA subject
  • Brief history of the TA's impact
  • Resources and summer of each resource site
  • Contributions and role of each member

My group included Thelia Lisle (leader), Sarah Crow, Laura Vinson, and myself. We called our group The Big Country Tech Teachers. My contribution was accessibility issues.

Rationale: I picked this artifact because it made me realize how much society has changed. I also realized how much I take for granted. Most of the time, I do not think about ways to make my work more accessible or even user friendly. To effectively communicate we must always think of our audience, and how they will see our work.

Implications for future: Now that I am aware of accessibility issues I need to put them into practice. I hope that is what I pass on to my students. We should not merely be concerned with teaching the concepts but emphasize the need to put them into use.

Reviewers Comments: Big Country Tech Teachers.... Your presentation was VERY, VERY professional. I am completely impressed with the entire document and the flow of it. You did a marvelous job and deserve to be very proud of yourselves. It was very easy to read and like I told the Iowa Park Avengers, even though we did the same subject, it was really neat to see all the different areas that we picked out and placed importance on...I'm glad that we're all different so that we can give everyone a better education!

Excellent Presentation Ya'll! ;-)
