Web Mastering

The Web mastering teacher has the knowledge and skills needed to teach the Foundations, Information Acquisition, Work in Solving Problems, Communication strands of the Technology Applications Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) in Web mastering, in addition to the content described in Technology Applications Standards I-V.

Reflections: Before TATC I never built a web site, now I feel more confident in my ability. As I look back at my experience in Web Mastering, I would say that I have truly grown. I believe this is true because I have had many opportunities to use this skill through out the TATC program. It has been fun and I look forward to continue building my skills. I have had more success experimenting with webpages than some of the other TA subjects.

As learners we discussed whether we should teach code or application. I am somewhere in the middle of this topic. As a programmer, I feel that it is important to learn the html. On the other hand why reinvent the wheel. So I think it is necessary for students to learn enough code to debug and fine tune their pages but also learn one or more web software.

Artifact #2

Artifact #2 -- I have chosen this artifact as one of my best work pieces because it marks a beginning point form me. This web site was my first web site to create. While creating this site I had to solve some problems by going to the html code and finding my mistakes and making the necessary corrections. While others may not see the process it took to build the site, I feel that it was a wonderful learning process for myself. I also felt that I used colors and images that best fit the location and mood of my site.

Title: Mesa Travel Agency

Course: Web Authoring 102

Date Created: October 1, 2002

Source: Individual Project Web Design

Media: Macromedia Dreamweaver

Description: The Mesa Travel Agency web site was a project for TATC Web Authoring. The scenario was that a travel agency had commissioned me to develop a site for their company. Attention had to be given to the development of the site, which included a storyboard, navigation schemes, and tone. Also included was a company logo, company information, and graphics.

Rationale: This project was the first time I had created a web site It introduced me to the steps of creating a site, from planning, testing, and refining. It taught me the importance of organization. It also helped me learn more about navigation and how important it was not to feel lost in a web site

Implications for future: Again since this was my first experience, I had to jump in feet first. It was so helpful to have the encouragement and wisdom of other TATC learners to help me. I gained more confident in my ability to create a web site I also learned how to trouble shoot in html, which was very valuable. Finding a problem in html added to my confidence level. This product will be and interesting way to introduce students to web design.

Reviewers Comments: Nice Site, Debbie. Are you from that area? Both of my children were born in Albuquerque. The picture of the balloons was one of the nicest I have seen. The tram to Sandia Peak was built while we lived there. We left in 1968.
