Informed Decision Making
Use technology-related terms,
concepts, data input strategies, and ethical practices to make informed
decisions about current technologies and their applications.
Reflection:
Throughout
the TATC program we have referred back to the ideas and concepts
that we explored in our Foundation course. Many of the concepts
were new to me, such as the rule of thirds and the use of harmony
and balance. However, as we journey through each TA subject we found
that each area applied much of the same concepts. The resources
given were helpful. I referred back to them several times.
Most of my students walk in
the classroom wanting to jump to the assignment. They are more interested
in me telling them exactly what to do than learning why the work
is done a certain way. I think they do not appreciate the fact that
they have to build up their skills. Some of my students will not
commit to an answer unless I tell them it is correct. Without learning
the basic steps it is impossible to be able to make informed decisions.

Description: TA Learners
were to search for examples that represented each of the TA subject
areas. After finding the examples, we were asked to analyze each
for it's use of the elements and principles of design. Then, using
the format of description, analysis, interpretation, and judgment,
present our findings.
Rationale: I selected
this artifact because it provided an early look at all TA subjects.
It was one of the first assignments that made me analyze each work
based on the elements and principles of design. I learned that there
is purpose in each example. Each example had to gain attention long
enough to communicate one or more messages. Each work no matter
how simplistic, complicated, or creative, followed basic rules.
(Every once in a while the rules may be broke but for a reason.)
I also learned that this requires much more thought and planning
than I ever imagined.
Implications for future:
This assignment would be a great assignment to make students look
beyond what appeals to them and make them think about why it appeals
to them. I think so many times we take things at face value with
out truly looking for any message or feeling. I think this type
of assignment would be a great way to review the principles that
have been introduced to the students.
Reviewers Comments:I
thought it looked great. And I don't think any of us feels like
we're doing the actual "critique" correctly, so don't
feel bad--we're all in the same boat.
Nice work
