Multimedia

The multimedia teacher has the knowledge and skills needed to teach the Foundations, Information Acquisition, Work in Solving Problems, Communication strands of the Technology Applications Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) in multimedia, in addition to the content described in Technology Applications Standards I-V.

When Multimedia was a word used to describe slide shows, I felt very comfortable using it in the classroom to help hold the students interests during lectures. Today it means so much more. It now involves the combined effects of communicating to three major senses and provides a beneficial platform for learning to a diverse population. The many areas that can be combined to enhance the learning experience along with the freedom that this type of learning and teaching gives the classroom instructor is simply not being used to it's fullest capacity. It is not enough that our teachers use slideshows as a glorified overhead, they need to see the bigger picture of how engaging this kind of medium is for the student to use to demonstrate their understanding of a concept or research element. It transcends the limitations of grade level and distance. It can be simple or quite complicated. I use the multimedia platform for all my teaching sets because it ensures that my students get consistent information from me and I can keep it updated. The ability to email a PowerPoint slide show home to a homebound student helps both of us to engage in the learning. This is just one small example of the use of the technology.

Title: Walker Family Photo Album

Course: Multimedia

Date Created: March 25, 2002

Source: Individual Project

Media: Flash 4.0

Description: This is a splash page animation used to capture the attention of the viewer as the page downloads.

Rationale: This assignment directed that I create a splash page item to add to the first page of on online web photo album. It was created by importing a vector graphic of a genie in a lamp moving across the blue screen. The smoke from the lamp left the Walker name.

Implications for future: I will be able to use this lesson to teach two concepts. First, animations to introduce or to hook a viewer. Second, using these animations successfully in webpage design.

Reviewers Comments: Third time's a charm, and it worked like one. Nice work with the colors and the layout.

Title: Ghostbusters

Course: Multimedia

Date Created:

Source:

Media: Web Authoring, Video Wave, Sound Forge, Photoshop

Description:This assignment was designed to create a promotional website with a video trailer to promote a favorite movie. The design of the lesson called for a splash page with a movie synopsis and subsequent supporting documentation for the development process. The assignment focused on designing a product for a specific audience and providing adequate documentation of the product, to include sound integration with advance editing.

Rationale: I chose this work because it was my first experience with advance sound mixing in Sound Forge. I have taught digital graphics and animation for many semesters, however, the creation of a mixed soundtrack with features of my own creation was new to me. The process of creation and supporting the feeling of the movie was fun. I typically will not use or allow a black background to be used, but with the choice of the movie required the black background with the Green Slime text. I am extremely please with the product.

Implications for future: This will be an assignment I use in my WebMaster's class because it gives the students a choice of something they are interested in and allows them to show the skills they have developed over the course of the year. This will allow them to have a portfolio item which can be burned to a CD and kept.

Reviewers Comments: Good Job and Great colors. Your presentation shows alot of work with sound that is nicely explained. Good Work
