Title: Cheri Walker's personal logo
Course: Digital Graphics and Animation
Date Created: Fall 2001
Source: original design work by Cheri Walker
Media: Adobe Illustrator
Description: This assignment called for the creation of a strong black and white logo to promote a message without words. The logo is a vector graphic to allow for resizing without loss of quality. The Computer represents the work, the hands are repetition and the swirl is the perspective and movement. The elements of design show the contrast and the line and form.
Rationale: I have chosen to display my graphic as an artifact because the use of graphics is such an important area. It is from this source that all the other graphics used on letterheads, business cards, and advertising stem. The important feature in this design is it's usability in any format. I can make a strong graphic statement and know that it will work in any size or publication because it was created as a vector, which allows it to be resized with losing its quality.
Implications for future: Since many of the classes that I teach are business related, I hope to use my knowledge of graphic production and corporate identity to allow the students to create logos for applications in all their other productions. In my classes, one of the first assignments is to create a logo that makes a strong graphic statement about you and can be used in any size. I then have these printed in both full sheet and in one inch. The students then sign all their future works with the logo to accomplish many of the tasks used in Technology applications. For me, I grow to recognize their logo more quickly than their signature. It is a strong representation of the way we work as consumers, and I believe that this is the first step in modeling the fundamentals of communication.
Reviewers Comments:
Review Name:Rachel Newman Wow, I like your logo, it looks very professional. I had to study the logo to notice that the hands were on a computer, but in a larger size I can really tell what the message was.

Title: Squash and Stretch Tutorial
Course: Digital Graphics and Animation 101
Date Created: Spring 2003
Source: Animation Techniques
Media: Notepad, Web Design, Macromedia Director
Description: This was a unit lesson assignment that combined
the demonstration of the lesson represented in the instructional
materials. The lesson includes printable pages for the instructor
to use as step by step instructions and worksheets for the students
as well as unit vocabulary and a rubric for the grading of the lesson.
The page also provides resource links for related topics and lessons.
Rationale:I have chosen this lesson to demonstrate my skill with Digital Graphics and Animation because I believe that it points to the necessity to break instruction down into it's most simple parts to help our students gather skills that can be used in a larger context. This lesson provides step by step instructions and allows the student to have worksheets to focus on the planning of animation techniques prior to the actual work on the computer. I believe that it also allows the students to see the skill demonstrated in a simple way to help them stay focused on the lesson at hand. It also relies on the skills the students have previously learned in the use of animation software as beginners. Justification for Best Work: I have chosen this as an example of best work because so many of the Technology Applications are used. I have created a webpage that demonstrates the tenets of design for navigation, color, line, as well as the use of multimedia with the sound and animation used in the example. The page offers printable worksheets designed to incorporate the elements and principles of design for desktop publishing for the teacher and student to use. The rubric demonstrates the ability to inform, and assess for both the student and the teacher. This work also provides information on additional resources found in the WWW that are reliable and credible. I am pleased that this work promotes all of the Standards of Profiency in a concise and usable format.
Implications for future:With the popularity of animation for web design and video game creation, the most basic skills can be overlooked for the creation of a finished product. I believe that the strongest students are those who are able to see the depth of planning necessary for success in any product they create.
Reviewers Comments: This looks like a great lesson. You did a good job. Can I use it?

Title: Digital Graphics Lesson Sample
Course: Digital Graphics and Animation
Date Created: April 2003
Source: Digital Camera
Media: Dreamweaver, Photoshop 6, Digital Cameras
Description: Teachers often use before and after pictures to demonstrate techniques used in the process of creating Digital Graphic products. This is a webpage designed to show the pictures side by side in a before and after for the use of filters and special effects. The page demonstrates the professional qualities for final printed materials that can be used with simple effects from a digital editing software application.
Rationale: I chose this artifact to demonstrate the advanced skills I have learned in photo editing. The original picture is nice quality but lacked flair and interest. By showing and discussing the artistic effects and the special lighting effect applied to the picture, the learner can interpret the types of filtering and lighting effects. The final printed version of this picture, in an 8X10 was stunning and when matted and framed, made a interior decoration and memory cherished by the subject in the photo.
Implications for future: I believe that demonstrations like this give the student more creative ideas to work with. Many of the examples in books leave them wondering how to get from the beginning to the end. I will use step by step creations of their own pictures to inspire them to work outside of the written directions and create works that are unique to their abilities and interests. In my classroom experience, the students never cease to amaze me with their own creativity when the barriers of the unknown are removed.
Reviewers Comments:Great lesson for all levels of photoshop users. Each student can take into count what they know and build on that. Good use of filters and teaching advanced techniques.
