Instruction that Incorporates Technology

Know how to plan, organize, deliver, and evaluate instruction for all students that incorporates the effective use of current technology for teaching and integrating the Technology Applications Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) into the curriculum.

The area of Desktop Publishing was my strongest area when I entered TATC. I had regularly used Powerpoint to create interactive lessons for my students and required them to use the same multimedia platform to report their learning progress back to me. As I continue to learn new programs, I find that creating lessons that are interactive to the students needs satisfies a large number of educational issues. I am quite proud of this work. I believe that it is a terrific tool that most learners only use as a glorified overhead.

Title:Greeting Cards using Pagemaker 7.0 PDF Card from the Tutorial

Course: High Tech Academy

Date Created: November 2002

Source: Teacher Created Tutorial

Media:Adobe Pagemaker 7.0

Description: Media enhances the learning experience for all students. With multimedia tools, the teacher and student have a consistent learning tool that increase the sensory learning for a variety of learning styles. This tutorial is both pictoral and textual to help define the process of creating a folding card and to learn the important issues in beginning desktop publishing.

Rationale: I chose this example to demonstrate the incorporation of a technology element to a highly usuable tool that enhances the quality of life for anyone with the need to create personalized greeting cards. The process helps the user to plan the look of the card as well as incorporate the software features specific to the Pagemaker software.

Implications for future: This favorite teaching tool will continue to be a part of my regular teaching routine. I have found that it makes the quality of my instruction more consistent and the results for the learner are strong because they can access the lesson and go at an individual pace.
