Acquire, Analyze, and Evaluate Information

Identify task requirements, apply search strategies, and use current technology to efficiently acquire, analyze, and evaluate a variety of electronic information.

As a technology applications teacher is it imperative that we not only model the ability to acquire information and analyze it for the uses in our classes, but that we make it a regular habit for our students to do this also. They must know how to do more than simply download games and videos and look for music, they need to know how to live and work in a global electronic environment in a safe and healthy way. The use of these principles again go far beyond the scope of this class study. It applies to the way we live our lives.

Artifact #2

Descriptors: Web Authoring, Information Acquisition, Group Research, Desktop Publishing, Communicating to a Diverse Public

Title:Impact Report

Course: Foundations 100

Date Created:September 2001

Source:TATC Region XI

Media: Group Research report using a Web media for communication

Description:As the company formed from Module 1, select one of the TA subjects (Digital Graphics, Animation, Desktop Publishing, Video Technology, Multimedia or Web Authoring) to research regarding the impact that it has had on society. Analyze the impact on society, including concepts related to persuasiveness, marketing, role played, and point of view through research, interviews, and personal observation. The company report submitted needs to have a brief introduction as to the TA subject with a brief history of the impact that it has had. This report's main goal is to be a resource for others interested in your TA subject, so list resources that we can access to learn more about the this subjects' impact on society. Each member should have two or more resources attributed to them with a brief summary of the site. Your company report, should be posted by one company member as an attached document (preferably .rft format) to the Impact area or you might want to present your company's report as a web page and list the URL in the Discussion.

Rationale: I have chosen this artifact to reflect the broad nature of the types of information in the web world that we can utilize. I think that this project done as a group is also indicative to the way that we must live and work in society.

Implications for future: The ability to reasearch and analyze information in a group, providing cohesive processes and then implementing that information for the use of the general public is an important skill for today's student. Many of our students have little understanding of the vast changes that have taken place in the last half of the 20th century. This type of report helps to ensure that the use of technology and the appreciation for the changes that have occurred because of it are put to the best possible use in preparing them for a future as life-long learners.
