Web Mastering

The Web mastering teacher has the knowledge and skills needed to teach the Foundations, Information Acquisition, Work in Solving Problems, Communication strands of the Technology Applications Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) in Web mastering, in addition to the content described in Technology Applications Standards I-V.

Web authoring is providing an educational opportunity to the world at large that previously depended on slower methods of communication. With the ability to create websites that are multi-navigational, strong statement of position can be developed which allow the author to build a persuasive argument, sell a product, report finding, demonstrate tasks and a multitude of other things. This is the way of the future, because it allows the information to be absorbed in so many ways. The use of graphics, the collection of data in an organized deliver system and the ability to receive instant feedback.

Title: Filtering: Should We or Not?

Course: Webmastering

Date Created: Fall 2001

Source: Internet Research, Lesson plan from Biopoint.com

Media: Web Design, Javascript, Digital Graphics

Description: Prepare a multilevel web essay with Local, Global and Textual Navigation to research the issue of Filters in the Public School providing Internet access. The site must develop information for the reader and present a persuasive textual platform for consideration.

Rationale: I selected this assignment to demonstrate the use of Web Authoring for educational use to enhance and incorporate composition and research skills with the designs and tenets of web authoring. Additional skills in graphic design and intereactivity interfaces with the user demonstrate a product that serves a broad community. The assignment demonstrated here meets all the issues and expectations of a well designed webpage and the lesson plan used provided a wonderful rubric to evaluate the product also.

Implications for future: Education is changing in the way it is offered. Many students will need to be able to provide these type of research and publishing activities in the post secondary environment. These skills are useful in the work place. There are issues in this assignment that provide a fertile ground for dialoge in the classroom with regard to the appropriate use of technology in the educational environment.

Reviewers Comments: This is a very attractive web site. It gives a great deal of useful informtion about filtering Internet sites at school. It contains a lot of information that should explain why we filter at school to the students. They should all have to read this web site. I did notice on the sources page that sources 3 & 4 did not work. Overall this was a great job

Title: HTML Navigation, Advance Navigation Principles

Course: Web Authoring

Date Created:Fall 2003

Source: Instructional Materials used in Classroom

Media: Powerpoint, Web Design, Digital Graphics

Description: This is an instructional tool developed to teach the varieties of navigation needed in creating Websites that are for a variety of users and a diverse population. The product was created to demonstrate and educate the, global, local, and parallel navigation techniques used in creating websites to include name anchors, email contacts, text links, etc.

Rationale: I have chosen to incorporate this Powerpoint show into my portfolio because I believe that the ability to teach the concepts of website development are just as vital as being able to do them. The software packages today make the creation of websites fairly easy, however, the understanding and troubleshooting ability of a web designer are at the heart of the successful website. I have incorporated student examples of the instructional materials into this powerpoint and included educational materials for the edification of the viewer.

Implications for future: I plan to continue to use this type of educational media in my classroom . I hope that eventually, the classes that I teach will be offered in a distance learning environment and these teaching materials will be an enhancement of the lectures, workbooks and projects that I use in the classroom environment.

Reviewers Comments: What an informational tool - this will be a great asset in a classroom and in any teaching environment.
