Multimedia

The multimedia teacher has the knowledge and skills needed to teach the Foundations, Information Acquisition, Work in Solving Problems, Communication strands of the Technology Applications Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) in multimedia, in addition to the content described in Technology Applications Standards I-V.

Reflection: This course allowed me to study and learn the terminology and concepts of Multimedia Production. Multimedia production was very difficult for me to do. I did progress throughout the course. I believe that the first artifact reflects the basic skill level that I was at during the first part of the course. I really thought that I could present a PowerPoint presentation and call it good. Boy, was I wrong. I had a lot of difficulty getting everything to work together. I think I finally did get everything to work. This was one of my hardest assignments. I had the most trouble on this artifact, but I am happy with the overall results.

In the future I plan to use this to teach the TA Course Multimedia. I now have many different lessons created in this course, as well as using the ones that my classmates have created. Teaching the Multimedia next year will be more effective now that I have taken the TATC Certification class.

Rationale: I am inlcuding this artifact because I had to fix the problems that were associated with this project and that was just as much a learning lesson as the assignment. This assignment was packed with TA TEKS and adding problem solving to it made it an even stronger assignment.

The 103 Multimedia assignment for creating an introduction splash page was a new and challenging concept. I created a splash page the linked to my web page that contained links to my PowerPoint Presentation and Video. I also provided the credits to my site. Creating the photo album was a great way to share and keep your photos digitally. I went overboard with the creation of a photo album and I had to cut pictures in order to upload. My first attempt was going to take 3 days or so on the T1 line at school. I was panicked I started getting rid of the some of my pictures. Tried to upload again and it was better, but it still was going to take about 23 hours. Using my resources I asked my mentor and instructor what to do. The answer was yet another lesson to learn. I had to compress all of my pictures. When I did this, it uploaded in about 10 minutes. I was so very happy.

Getting the pictures to work was one thing, getting the video to work was yet another. Using a multitude of video software packages I embarked on the video. I got the video that I was going to use off of my camcorder. I used my Dazzle 80. After I got the video embedded into the web page I began testing my links. Nothing.

Implications for future: Multimedia production was one of the classes that I thought I had some pre-existing knowledge. I am teaching Multimedia next year and I plan to use this as one of the many assignments. PowerPoint is only one software package that could be used in Multimedia. Using and implementing various software packages into the curriculum is one of my goals for next year. I am going to align the curriculum in order to incorporate the different types of software. I also am in the works of putting all of my pictures into saved PowerPoint presentation. With Windows XP this is a snap, but a really good tool for Multimedia.

Reviewers Comments: Cindy I couldn't get to the PowerPoint presentation and the video clip gave me an error message.

Title: "The Man from Snowy River" Integration

Course: 103 Multimedia

Date Created: 3-11-03

Source: Individually Created

Media:GoLive, Powerpoint, Microsoft Word

Description:Discussion 2: Movie Integration Due Date: March 11

At the first of this course, we talked about our favorite movie or TV show. Now we are going to create a multimedia product around that show.

You are going to create an entire multimedia product based on your chosen movie/TV show. You are targeting a specific audience for your movie/TV show. Not only are you presenting information about the movie/TV show but you are also persuading us to watch it. Make your product appropriate for your audience. Create a multimedia product to “sell” us your choice! You may present your product to us in any format that you wish.

This assignment will require a lot of planning to accomplish.

Criteria

*Set up a storyboard of the MM product and link it to the presentation

*Timeline or sketch you're planning and link it to the presentation

*Integrate your edited sound into your presentation referenced in above discussion

*Link to a site that is related to your show

*Make your content persuasive in nature

*Give yourself credit in the presentation

*Include credits to sites or graphics

*Provide a written statement summarizing your target audience

Rationale: I am including this artifact because I understand the importance of integrating technology into the classroom. The integration of Multimedia projects into other projects in a great lesson which I had very little prior knowledge. Creating the timeline, storyboard, and credits were all things that I felt comfortable doing, however when it came to integrating music, pictures and a multimedia project I had some trouble. I did get the music to play on real player on my computer; however, I had a really hard time allowing others to hear the music. I re-did this entire assignment 3 times during this class and I am really not happy with the outcome. I am including it because it took a lot of work to fix all of the mistakes that I had in the artifact. After creating the third "Man from Snowy River" assignment, I realized many of my problems were due to the computer I was using. The plug-ins were not working; however, when I was at my wits end Connie looked at the assignment and the music played. I was so relieved. I had worked a really long time and I was beginning to really dislike the assignment. My frustration level was very high during this time. The inclusion shows that I have overcome some of the major problems with the artifact. I did not go back and fix all of the problems to demonstrate the trouble which I had.

Implications for future: I really like the concept of integrating multimedia projects into other assignments and I will use this in the future. I do need to brush up on my skills of including it on webpages. I am learning about plug-ins and presentation devises where I can present these things in my classroom.

Reviewers Comments:Your storyboard and timeline look good.
