Artifact #8
Descriptors: Elements and Principles of Design
Title: Representing Design
Course:100 Foundations
Date Created:8-24-02
Source: Individually Created
Media: Adobe GoLive and Microsoft Paint
Description: Create an image that represents each of the elements and principles of design using one object or series of objects. You may compose a separate image for each representation or create a composite of the images.
Rationale: I am including this artifact because it represents my knowledge of the principles and elements of design. I had not even heard of the principles and elements of design before TATC so this was a very big learning assignment for me. I researched each of the elements and applied them to an image that I drew in paint. In illistrating each element I now have the knowledge to teach and model each of the elements.
Implications for future: I am going to implement this into the curriculum where the students can learn the basic elements of design. I have used this assignment on 6th and 9th grade students. I find that by allowing the students to research then demonstrate each priniciple they retain the information. I had the students draw an image in paint and apply the elements of design to their image, just like the assignment that I did, then we cut each image out, glued in to a task card and laminated them for quick reference. In creating their own reference material, the students learned at a faster rate.
Reviewers Comments: "I thought your project was wonderful. The raindrops on the umbrella were the best. Nice work."
