Task Appropriate Tools in Problem-Solving

Use task-appropriate tools to synthesize knowledge, create and modify solutions, and evaluate results in a way that supports the work of individuals and groups in problem-solving situations.

Reflection: During TATC I was faced with many problem-solving situations. I had to learn the new software packages, as well as the curriculum, in order to be successful in TATC. Using the problem-solving skills that I acquired to create different products during TATC was a foundation that I will take to my students. Each time that I was able to evaluate, create and dissemenate information I was learning how to teach my students to help enhance their individual learning. One of my goals as a teacher is to learn all that I can and to be the best teacher that I can. This standard really helped me understand the concept of problem-solving.

Descriptors: Web Authoring Discussion

Title: Web Authoring Discussion 2: Servers

Course: 102 Web Authoring

Date Created: 9-9-02

Source: Discussion

Media: Microsoft Word , Email

Description: What is the purpose of a Web server? What advantages and disadvantages do you see of hosting a site on an Intranet rather than the Internet? These are two question you will answer. You need to do a little research on the web for this. There is no right or wrong answer to these well-debated questions. I want you to choose a position and cite any sources that you use to help you come to your conclusion. Present your findings in a concise manner in a universally readable word processing document.

Rationale: I included this artifact in my portfolio because the problem-solving techniques used to determine the various uses of a web server gave me the information and research skills I need to take this into the classroom. Taking information from my experiences and the Internet allowed me toanalyze the information and present it to my group in a concise and presentable format.

The research on the Intranet vs. Internet was a harder lesson for me since I had no prior knowledge how an Intranet worked. I see the benefits now of using both the Internet and Intranet to post information.

Implications for future: With all of the information that is available by using the Internet one must determine if the information is valid and reliable. I will use this lesson to teach me to gather information and analyze the information for its validity. I will also address the security on the Internet and Intranet.
