Acquire, Analyze, and Evaluate Information

Identify task requirements, apply search strategies, and use current technology to efficiently acquire, analyze, and evaluate a variety of electronic information.

Reflection: Information can come to us as a quick resource with the introduction and use of the Internet. Acquiring, analyzing and evaluating the information for quality and validity is one task that the Internet researchers need to practice. With this artifact the group gathered information on the acquisition of information, analyzed it for our special needs and evaluated the information by posting for review from our peers. This was a very meaningful project that reminds us to research the information that we obtain from the Internet.

Artifact #2

Descriptors: Researching the Internet for Information pertaining to the past, present and future impact of technology on society.

Title: Web Authoring Impact Report

Course: 100 Foundations

Date Created: 8-13-02

Source: Team Project

Media: Adobe GoLive, Internet Explorer

Description: As the company formed from Module 1, select one of the TA subjects (Digital Graphics, Animation, Desktop Publishing, Video Technology, Multimedia or Web Authoring) to research regarding the impact that it has had on society. Analyze the impact on society through research, interviews, and personal observation. Some things to consider in your analysis should be the concepts related to persuasiveness, marketing, role played, and point of view.

This report's main goal is to be a resource for others interested in your TA subject, so list resources that we can access to learn more about the impact on society that your subject has had.

The company report submitted needs to have:

*A brief introduction as to the TA subject.

*A brief history of the impact that the specified TA has had.

*Resources listed with a brief summary of each resource site. Two or more resources should be referenced to each company member with the exception of the group leader.

Rationale: I am adding the impact report artifact because it allowed me to study the past, evalate the present, and look to the future. This assignment was a team effort and I learned just as much being the project director as I did researching the information. The inclusion of this artifact demonstrates my ability to contribute as a team member, research and evaluate information and submit valid data.  This opportunity also allowed me to interact with my peers on a professional basis and construct information that is useful in my teaching.

Implications for future: Using this assignment during the first week of school could teach my students the valuable lessons on the impact technology has had, and is continually having, on society. I will use this as one of the introductory lessons in all of my Technology Applications classes. Analyzing information and determining the validity of the information is a great lesson to be learned when finding information via the Internet.

Reviewers Comments: "Great information on web authoring and its impact on society. Isn't it amazing how far this area has come in such a relatively short time? I enjoyed your reports on the past, present, and future of web authoring. I bookmarked some of your sites to use. Your web page is attractive and cheerful. I like the font....It seemed friendly and made me want to read more."
