Title: Mood Piece
Course: 105 Video Technology
Date Created: March 23, 2003
Source: Team Project
Media: Video Wave, Inspiration, and Front Page
Description: Your "Mood" piece video requirements.
*A time limit of 1 min.
*A storyboard or script of the video - You may use either the storyboard or script format but as a group you will need to decide which format before beginning.
*A mood conveyed
*At least 3 edited/cut/trimmed scenes from their original clip
*Sound
*Credits
Rationale: 105 Video Technology assignment was to create a 1 minute or less video conveying a certain mood. This video was a group project allowing each member to contribute to the project. This is a great way to learn all the concepts of producing a video without the frustration of learning the concepts alone. This was a very good assignment to introduce students to the fundamental concepts of Video Technology. Each member of the group was responsible for finding a portion of the final project. Working in a group provided additional support while I was getting introduced to Video Wave.
Using Video Wave to edit the clips and still images that we found on the internet we were able to produce a video that conveyed a theme of peace and tranquility.
Implications for future: This is a really good starting point for video production. I am really looking forward to using this project with my classes. I have found many advantages and disadvantages of being in a group. Having the group to work with was an advantage because different members of the group brought certain strengths to the group. On the flip side of that, I can see how working in a group could be very stressful.
I like the idea that students will pick a theme and then locate all of the resources that is needed for the project. The outcome of their particular part will affect the project as a whole. Learning from your peers is a great lesson. I know that not all students learn at a certain pace and this project can promote the different types of learning styles and "moods" of the students.
Reviewers Comments: Great job.... Everything looked great and worked great.... The mood that came to mind for me is something like tranquility, beauty, peaceful...... Am I close?
Congratulations on having it all done and done correctly!!!!!!!

Title: "We Are the Champions" Music Video
Course: 105 Video Technology
Date Created:
Source: Individual Created
Media: GoLive, Video Wave, CD Ripper, Scanner, Dazzle 80, Video Camera, Microsoft Word Web Page with the Video attached. The video is on a web streamer server.
Description: Complete your music video project now by producing it in the compression format "wmv", windows media streaming and promoting it via the distribution method of the World Wide Web.
Video Requirements:
*Demonstrate knowledge in composition such as ratio of image to frame, position in frame, line of gaze, pan/tilts, movement, and perspective.
*Demonstrate proficiency in basic camera techniques such as zoom, focus, iris control, white balance, and filters.
*Utilize lighting techniques such as key, fill, and backlight, using incandescent/reflected light, color temperatures, and filter use.
*Include control and/or time coded tracks, transitions, audio levels, and background music.
*Use audio and editing techniques to transition the scenes. What many music videos do is to change scenes on the beat of the music.
*Use character generators, fonts, colors, and principles of composition to create graphic images.
*Include captions and/or titles for video and graphics.
*Produced as a windows media streaming file and accessed from the TATC windows media streaming server.
*Two minutes maximum. Although it is difficult to specify any kind of an arbitrary length for the video, it should be limited in scope and complexity given the short production and post-production schedules that will be necessary in this course.
Web Page Requirements:
*It must be designed to publicize the music group or individual and feature the music video as the center of interest.,
*The design of the web page should be in keeping with the message of the video,
*It is important to consider what effect you want this video to have on its audience, and
*For project documentation, discreetly include links to your storyboard and project management plan.
Rationale: One of the assignments in TATC 105 Video was the creation of a music video.
I thought since the Lady Pirates of Priddy had just won the State 1A Basketball Title I would do a feature on the team. The song "We Are the Champions" seemed fitting since they also won the Texas Cup, in which the small 1A champion plays the big 1A champion.
The quest of finding the right screen shots from pre-taped videos was very challenging. Using different types of software and input devices I was able to create just the right frame shot for the lyrics of this song. Creating the right frame took planning and
time management. Included on the web page are links to the storyboard, management and credits. All of the links are web based with the exception of the credits. On the credits page the viewer has to open Microsoft Word to view.
From start to finish of the video I was continually changing my mind on the outcome of the video. In order to make the video under the time limit of two minutes I had to edit my song. I took the song from "The Knight's Tale" soundtrack and with the program CD Ripper I extracted the song. The song without being edited was 3:20, which was much too long. I then took the file and opened it up in Cool Edit Pro and made the time adjustment, making the song 1:32. After I had the song edited for the video I then placed the sound file in Video Wave.
After the creation of the time line in Video Wave I was able to insert the sound file. I had to attempt this several times. I was trying to make this much harder then it really was. After I got the sound file on the video I published the file and I was able to view the entire video in windows media player.
I featured the product at the High School Graduation in May. All who saw the video have asked for a copy. This is why I am including this as one of my best works. I have seen this video at least 2 dozen times and I still feel like "We Are the Champions."
Implications for future: I have already put this knowledge to use. Having the opportunity to make the video for the Basketball Team gave me the idea to also make a video to give to the seniors. I had the seniors bring me 15 pictures and I put together a 30 minute video of the seniors throughout the years. I started with baby pictures and went the last day of their senior year. It was a pleasure to have had the opportunity to contribute to the memories of their high school graduation.
Next year I will be offering Video Technology. I am really excited about this development. I am now working on setting up the course syllabus and guidelines. I am also working on getting enough space on the servers to handle a class with this depth and scope.
Reviewers Comments:
Great job! Your video is something you can be proud of, and I'll bet the team is lining up for copies! Very appropriate graphics and background for your web page. Everything looked great. Pat yourself on the back. What an honor for the team and coach (the whole school for that matter--especially in a small school everyone feels like family).
