Welcome to My TATC Portfolio Home

Welcome to my TATC Portfolio Homepage. This portfolio will contain the fruits of my labors over the twelve month period beginning in August of 2002. It will show my progress, my ups and downs, my strengths and weaknesses. It will show the growth I have made in my journey to master the Technology Applications courses. The major components and navigation of my portfolio are presented on the left, at the top under the banner and at the bottom of the page. The following components comprise my navigation and portfolio framework:

  • TATC Portfolio Home - An introduction of myself including my Resume and my technology life history.
  • Goals - A brief statement of the goals I have set for myself concerning technology and teaching.
  • Observation - A reflective statement concerning my overall thoughts about my Observation experiences.
  • Reflection - A reflective statement concerning my thoughts about the overall program of study.
  • Standards I-XI - All of the Technology Applications (8-12) Standards and their artifacts are listed on one page with a link provided to each individual standard. Each standard has one or more captioned artifacts linked to it. Note that when you view an artifact representing any standard, a separate window will open for the artifact. When you finish viewing the artifact you can close the window.
    • I, II, III, IV, V, VII, VIII, IX, X, XI - Links to direct access of each individual standard and its captioned artifacts.
  • Standard's Matrix - A matrix diagramming the relationship between the TA Standards and each of the associated indicators with my portfolio artifacts.

Personal Background

My name is Carol Luttmer and I teach at Lindsay High School in Lindsay, Texas. I was born and raised in Lindsay (a small town outside of Gainesville); went to school here, got married here, live here now. It is usually a very nice, quiet community settled by German immigrants about a century ago. We have an official population of about 800 with a school enrollment of about 450 K-12. I was a yearbook editor in high school which has come back to haunt me because my principal (who was also a good friend in high school) has now given me the job of yearbook sponsor. I married my high school sweetheart after a year of attending North Central Texas College (we recently celebrated our 27th anniversary). Two and a half years later I graduated from North Texas State University. This is my first year as a BCIS teacher and I also teach Keyboarding to the 7th and 8th grades. I am also drill team sponsor because I have had a daughter in drill team every year since 1995 and therefore I am qualified! I have a Bachelor's of Business Administration degree from University of North Texas and secondary and elementary certifications. My husband I have four children, three girls and a boy. Our oldest, Elizabeth, graduated from Texas A&M in May of 2002 with a degree in English and is teaching 7th grade at Decatur. She got married in June. Margaret, the second, is a sophomore at Texas A&M majoring in Ag Economics. Sara is a senior at Lindsay and doesn't seem to want to follow in her sisters' A&M tradition. Greg is a fifth grader at Lindsay and he thinks dove season is the best!

Mornings at my house.

Significant Personal and Technology Events in My Life

The most significant event in my life other than those listed in my background is my entry into this certification program through the Education Service Center in Forth Worth. The only technology experience I have is as a member of the TIF Tech team for two years and I have a computer in my classroom that I use to do grades and communicate with fellow educators. Emotionally, I can handle the computer. The TATC program has me stressed beyond belief.

Reasons for Wanting to be a Technology Applications Teacher

Job security? Fun to teach? Great kids? Never boring? Web page credits? Any and all of the above!!!!! I am excited about the prospects of Technology Applications. Our Technology Director has been a great inspiration to me. Her dedication and willingness to help have been a steady force for me to observe. This is an exciting field.

Preparing to Teach

As my daughter comes home with her stories as new teacher in the classroom, I am reminded of what is was like to be totally new on a new campus. I don't feel that so much anymore, having been at Lindsay since 1991. I love changing teaching assignments and being almost as scared as the students with the task in front of me. I learn so much in that first year and always hope that I will keep that edge of fear. Maybe that's why I change teaching assignments fairly often. I like feeling like a new kid in a new room on the first day. (Kind of sad, isn't it!) I don't ever what to be the kind of teacher that knows everything and is always right. Let me be the teacher that learns something new everyday and learns most of it from her students!
