Standard IV
Communicate Information
Communicate information in different formats and for diverse audiences.
Reflection: This standard is few in words but very broad in meaning to me. Technology projects and assignments can be done in several different ways. (For example, all the ways to print a document in Word.) I feel that the technology minded people will look for different ways to accomplish a tasks. When one works with diverse audiences however, they need to provide the most obvious method or usage to accomplish something with technology. Communication is the key...

Descriptors: Digitally Capturing Images, Image Integrity, File Formats
Title: Image File Format
Course: 101-1 Image Topics
Date Created: October 15, 2002
Source: Found research from Internet. Also, I learned some of these facts from usage of image extensions using Photoshop.
Media: Used GoLive to build web page and used various digital photos from my collection and the Internet to display differences in the extensions on the images.
Description: Our mission on this assignment was to choose a topic to research from a given list. I chose image extensions. I then presented my research to the class in web page format. I used the 4 image extensions of:
I presented my research in a mathematical format. I took images brought into Photoshop and converted them to the 4 different image formats. Then I compared them with each other. I demonstated compression differences, color limits, pixel count differences, and loading time comparisons. Along with the images, I explained the differences in the extensions that one would need to know to complete certain projects and effects.
Rationale: I chose this artifact for this standard because it communicates different image formats with information about each. I learned so much from this assignment. I used the facts so many times in all my classes that I teach and in these TATC classes that I am enrolled in. Image extensions can complicate things if one is not knowledgeable about them. Students have a mental block about the image extensions and do not want to learn them until they need something to work and then they pay attention to the different image formats.
Implications for future: From here on out, I will start each class that I teach explaining and using the image format extensions from day one. I will then go over and over these concepts to them. During the year, I will make sure that they all understand these extensions and how to use them so that they will be "image-ready". I get more questions on these formats from the other teachers. I want the students to help the other teachers with this issue.
Reviewer's Comments:
Really nice web pages, Candy. The file extensions were well explained and easy to understand. There was several pieces of information that I hadn't seen before--not that I'm an expert!
The structure of the web pages was consistent and easy to navigate around in. The pictures were good illustrations of the concepts you were discussing.
Congratulations on a really nice job!
