Standard III
Task Appropriate Tools in Problem-Solving
Use task-appropriate tools to synthesize knowledge, create and modify solutions, and evaluate results in a way that supports the work of individuals and groups in problem-solving situations.
Reflection: As I reflect on this standard, I realize that tools are the essential part of technology. These tools take us from the basics of word processing to the most advanced stages of producing with video technology. As I use these tools, I realized that I have really grown in my ability to make what is appropriate and to recognize what is well done. I hope that as I continue to create and evaluate software and products made with that software, I will train my students to reach this higher level also.

Artifact #8
Descriptors: Analyze Scenes
Title: Techniques Illustrated
Course: Video 105
Date Created: March 31, 2003
Source: I used a digital camera to take the pictures for the comparison.
Media: Go Live was used to build the web page with the digital pictures.
Description: We were to use personal pictures or take pictures with a digital camera to illustrate the good and the bad ways of picture taking. We were to read and study the concepts and techniques of correct picture taking. Then a web page was built displaying all the pictures. Along with the pictures are the descriptions of our analysis of each pair of pictures. With all this in mind, I chose good/bad lighting, good/bad angle of shot, and a distance issue for my picture pairs.
Rationale: I chose this artifact for this standard because it shows how I have learned to evaluate and use the tools to build better quality digital and video related products. This artifact shows how I can demonstrate what correct picture taking techniques I have learned. Up until now, I just took pictures and hoped they were decent. Now when I take a picture, either on film or digitally, I feel like my final pictures are of better quality. Hopefully, these pictures show my new "learned" correct picture taking techniques.
Implications for future: I will actually take this assignment and use it in my classroom for the students to evaluate digital pictures. The only difference will be that I had the camera to use but they will use pictures they find off the Internet due to lack of cameras for all to use. I will always need to remind myself of what I have learned when I am taking pictures for myself and for the annual.
Reviewer's Comments: Good job, you have a good grasp of the techniques. I liked looking at your pictures, very easy to see the correct and incorrect examples.
