Web Mastering

The Web mastering teacher has the knowledge and skills needed to teach the Foundations, Information Acquisition, Work in Solving Problems, Communication strands of the Technology Applications Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) in Web mastering, in addition to the content described in Technology Applications Standards I-V.

Reflection:  Basically, when I started the web class, I was very apprehensive. I had worked some with Front Page. I knew that I was teaching and studying web page building this school year. So, I had no excuse. I needed to learn the basics, the tools, and all the design features to build a web page. When we began the web course, we were asked to build and post our projects. What a frightening thought! I could tell by what was posted that I was not alone in my fears. The more we had to post, the better I got. I am now at the point to be dangerous but not an authority. My goal is to become more of an authority in web page building and to teach my students a skill that they can use out in this real world.

Artifact #2

Descriptors:  Web Site Design, HTML

Title: Greyhound Travel...My Travel Site

Course:  102-1 Web Design

Date Created:  October 1, 2002

Source:  I got my information from the Internet for the facts about Red River to use in my web page.

Media:  Adobe GoLive and Photoshop

Description:  The assignment was to build a travel web site with 3 pages.  Graphics and a map were to be included.  A storyboard and a site map were to be built and linked in site.  The site had to be tested by a test site with results included.  A certain viewpoint had to be used to present the site.  All links had to work.  The site was to be built on the level of the webmaster.

Rationale:  In this assignment, I gained the knowledge, through trial and error, of how to build a web site with correct structure for navigation. Also, we studied what was necessary for a properly structured web site. I picked this artifact because this site was my first site built where I knew any proper netiquette.

Implications for future:    I became more confident in building web pages.  I have gotten more familiar with HTML too.  Most importantly, this project will really come in handy when my students run into a problem in the classroom because of all the troubleshooting I had to do to complete this assignment.  I still have lots to learn - especially understanding all about publishing my webs.

Reviewer's Comments:  I'm calling right now 1-811-GET AWAY.  Fonts were easy on the eyes.  Navigation to each section was present on every page and was easy to follow.  All aspects of the assignment seemed to be included and were functioning well.

Artifact #3

Descriptors: Password Design Direct

Title: Password Project

Course: 102A- Web Authoring

Date Created: October 2, 2002

Source: Some Java Script examples and some HTML experience

Media: HTML and Java Script

Description: Everyone in the class was given a word in a sayings puzzle. We had to build a web page that was password protected. The web page had the word or words to contribute to the puzzle. We had to build the security with two sets of passwords - one with words and one with numbers. We had to make up our questions and structure the security password entrance to accept and reject all possible answers typed in. The first one of us to get enough of the puzzle worked and sent to the teacher won.

Rationale: I chose this artifact because I spent quite a bit of time getting all of the parts to work. I was very proud when I finished and it all worked. I learned just enough to know that there is so much more to learn about security using  HTML and Java. I learned also that setting up a little password issue can turn into a BIG issue!

Implications for future: I will spend time with passwords with my web classes because they need to learn more about security in the Internet. I think it would be fun to set up some pages on the school web page that have security password questions built in. I would build the pages so that the password question would be trivia historical questions about our school. This would make the students think, ask, and research. It will make me research items too.

Reviewer's Comments:. Congrats to you too. You know how to do this. I can't get mine to work. You are on inspiration to me.
